Can Cheerios be used as treats? If so, which one is safe, Honey Nut Cheerios, or the regular cheerious?

Yes, they are safe! Regular cheerios are recommended, I'm not sure about the Honey Nut ones. Just don't give too many, as they are only meant for treats.

I wouldn't use honey nut cheerios just because they have more sugar.
Many say you can give up to 7 a day, but I usually give up to 2-3 max because 7 has always seemed way too much for a little mouse.

Yup, a puffed rice cereal (like Rice Krispies, except that brand tends to have quite a bit of added sugar), or really most unsweetened cereals, I'd imagine.

Hey, are multi-grain Cheerios okay?

Original Cheerios has the least amount of sugar added (1g). Multi-grain cheerios are ok but for comparison has 6 grams of sugar. The "ancient grains" are ok too but have 5 grams of sugar. Honey nut has 9 grams of sugar.

You can use pretty much any cereal as a treat, just avoid anything that's quite sugary or flavoured (e.g. chocolate or cinnamon). Cheerios, corn flakes, puffed rice. Mice love cereal!

Make sure to double check ingredients. I personally choose to skip kinds that have BHT added (you can look that up if you want - it's just my decision to be better safe than sorry). But also other things that may not be safe for mouse consumption. For example I have pumpkin spice cheerios here but I've been told before to avoid spices like cloves and nutmeg, so the mice won't be getting any.

I have fed my mouse both plain cheerios, honey nut cheerios, and frosted cheerios. He doesn't seem to prefer one over the other, so I just stick to plain cheerios because they have the least sugar.

My mouse also enjoys golden grahams as a treat Smile
