My boyfriend found two furry babies with their eyes still closed a couple days ago while moving hay bales at work. He has given them to me to take care of them. I've been giving them watered kitten formula every two hours and massaging their bellies and genitals with a wet qtip after every feed. They have been doing good until this morning. They have become constipated and aren't going anymore. One died this afternoon (I'm heartbroken), but the other is still hanging on. It's still eating and crawling around, but is not going to the bathroom and hasn't all day. Closest emergency vet is 3 hours away.
It's belly isn't hard, and I can't tell if it's bloated. The only softness it's belly has is after eating when it fills up. I'm not sure what to do at this moment. It's back right leg has become sort of "immobile", it's not using it as much. At this point is it too late? Do I just keep trying?

I would just keep trying and hope for the best. You can't blame yourself for anything that happens. The thing about orphaned mice is that more often than not, they dont survive. We just can't care for them as well as their mothers can. I wish you the best.

Pedialyte and Karo syrup are sometimes mentioned as an aid for bloating/constipation. For Pedialyte or Karo syrup/corn syrup, you dilute them with equal parts water. 1/2 Pedialyte, 1/2 water. If you use the corn syrup, you want to make sure it's hot water so it will dissolve, and then you can give it when it's cooled down a bit.

These pages have a lot of information for caring for wild mice and orphans. May be worth a read. Good luck with this little baby! Good vibes
