Where to get mice
I was thinking about adopting another mouse again. I've found myself missing the company of my late pal Monty who was an active but relatively quiet roommate. I was hoping of getting two females this time around so that I wouldn't feel bad on occasions where I'm too busy to play with them for extended periods of time.
The thing is I have no idea where to start looking for mice. I wouldn't mind getting some from a pet shop, but if they were pregnant it'd be a nightmare for me since my mother is terrified of mice. Plus I wouldn't have the resources to care for a litter and likely wouldn't be able to rehome most of the pups. I don't know of any breeders or mice rescue groups in my area, is there a way to find out if any even exist?
It'd be entirely possible for me to adopt another single boy mouse again, but I really would like to get a pair of lovely ladies. Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me!

Re: Where to get mice
You can always see if your local shelters have small pets for adoption even if they do not specifically say they are mouse rescues. The other option is to keep an eye out on Craigslist or a similar site. Unfortunately with girls there is always the risk that they could be pregnant unless buying from a very knowledgeable breeder. Another option is to see if you can find a mouse breeder near you though that is a long shot. I am sorry I wasn't more help and I wish you the best.

Don't some pet shops give some kind of guarantee that if one of your mice is pregnant they'll take the babies or something like that?
I know lots of people on here get their mice from pet shops and I haven't heard of any members having a pregnant mouse, so I guess it's not all that common. Maybe someone can recommend a pet shop for you.

The best place is to look at shelters! After that, look on craigslist and see if anyone near you is rehoming any mice.

Re: Where to get mice
Ditto re shelters and craigslist if you want to avoid pet shops and there are no breeders near you. That said, PetSmart has a policy of carrying only one gender of rodents per store: the one closest to me has only female mice, hamsters, rats, guinea pigs while the one in the other direction carries only males. Petco stores sometimes carry only one gender (the one near me is all female) but most, I believe, carry both. Just bear in mind that you should have a trio of ladies rather than a pair, largely to avoid dominance issues and the pain of a single lady left alone when the other passes.
