Force Feeding? Empty Force Feeding?

Post by CinnamonPearl on Tue 20 Dec 2016, 9:09 am

Does anyone know anything about the best way to force feed a mouse? Henry isn't eating enough, and his weight is starting to dip, so I need to get some calories in him if he's going to live. I'm gonna pick up baby food on my way home from school, but what's the best way to do this? How much should I give him per feeding, how many times per day, et cetera.

I've never had to do much of it, hopefully someone can make a recommendation. The only thing I've done is use a syringe to deliver some water in very small amounts. But I'm sure you could easily do this with kmr. I wouldn't try to force anything other than water and kmr. With baby food, you could try smearing a little bit on his mouth (careful of the nose!) and seeing how he responds to that and go from there.

Okay I'll try it. I'm getting a new can of KMR today so I'll do that. As for baby food, I'll try your suggestion. Thanks!

But, question. could I possibly put the KMR in the same syringe as his baytril and give it to him that way? Or should I administer it separately?

You could, but I wouldn't recommend it and here's why... If you can't get him to take all of it, you have no idea how much medicine he has taken since it's mixed together in the syringe. It's always best to keep medicine separate.
