Itchy Mice right after a Treat Empty Itchy Mice right after a Treat

Hi Guys, I am a novice mice pet owner here. I've been reading a lot about mice and how to care for them. Here is a question:

If it possible my mice are having an allergic reaction to food?

I just treated my mice to a tiny bit of beef (not seasoned or anything, literally just cut a tiny bit of meat and cooked it in water to avoid oils and such) and a little of white rice with oatmeal.
I am noticing that my mice are a little itchy-scratchy ever since they finished their treat, mostly their tiny hand/paws and their mouth.

hmm... Update:

One of my mice (the greedy one) is now curled up in a ball in a corner not close to the other 2 mice. He is breathing normally but so far in the 5 days owning them I have never seen them sleep or curl up like that.

You may want to check out this list.... http://petmousefanciers.forumotion.com/t2-safe-foods

Red meat is on the AVOID section of that list. I don't know the exact reason so I can't really explain why it's bad, but I wouldn't give it to them anymore. Another member can probably explain more soon. Always check that list before you give your mice something, and if you can't find it on the list, don't hesitate to ask us about it first. Good luck Smile

Oh Lordy!

I checked on another place a list of treats and 'safe' food for Mice and it listed cooked meat (unseasoned) as a treat. OK I did give them a ludicrously small bit of meat as in about the size of a small corn kernel. Thank you so much for that List, I hope I did not upset their tummy!

They most likely meant white meat (turkey, chicken, etc.). I'm hoping the affects of red meat are not too bad, but I don't know much about that. Hopefully another member will come help us out soon.

I figured they probably meant something like that now that I read this other list. I hope nothing to bad for them. I feel so sorry for them me thinking in giving them a nice little treat end up making them uncomfortable. So far 2.5 after eating the meat I have only seen them itch.

Could they just be cleaning themselves after a messier treat than usual? lol

I'm pretty sure on the previous forum, beef and pork weren't recommended because of the way they're digested and linked to cancer... plus the grease (like bacon). A tiny bit of beef (fully cooked) every now and then shouldn't be a biggie, but it's definitely not something you want to feed regularly unless it's something like kibble.

That's a relief, good to know. Thanks for helping me out Peachy Razz

I think... they might have been just cleaning I mean meat specially boiled even when fully cooked is still very juicy. I kinda feel embarrassed because:

1. They seem rather fine right now.
2. I think they might have been just napping soundly on their own since they normally group up for sleepy time.
3. It's rather late where I live (11:30PM) I have noticed that normally they are already napping at this time but today I gave them a new enclosure so they might just have been too tired from exploring they just wanted to nap after a big meal?

Anyways I will keep looking at them and see if something change.

Edit(while typing). One thing to note, the male (he was very feisty with me and would not let me grab him or come near him) is quite very docile now.

I don't think eating beef would affect a mouse's tameness. Sounds like a coincidence.
