Strange reflective eyes? Empty Strange reflective eyes?

I've noticed when the flash fires on the camera, Blossom's eyes will come out red in the picture (I actually fix it with a red eye tool Laughing). Today she was looking up into the light and her eyes looked pure ruby red reflecting the light, then when she was out of the light, they were black again! Shocked How is this? Why are her eyes special?

Isn't red eye just a thing that happens with cameras?

I think its a normal thing because of how the eye is made. You normally get red-eye on a camera because the eyes are reflecting the flash, so if you're at the right angle and she's looking at the light then I imagine you could get a similar effect. I think the angles and the light mean that the colour of red you get might be different between say a camera flash and a normal light.
(Its been a while since I did this sort of physics).

All animals with eyes technically have red eyes in the right circumstances, because of blood vessels. We just can't always see this because of the melanin in the eye (which gives eyes their color). In some lights and angles, Blossom's eyes will reflect with the redness from the blood vessels in the back of the eye and in others the melanin will cover it up.

Sounds like your girl has ruby eyes! My Splotchy (ham) has ruby eyes. I thought she had black eyes for the longest time until i took a flash photo. Then on closer inspection, it was clear that she had very dark ruby eyes. They are gorgeous, enjoy gazing into them! If I can find splotch's picture, I'll post it.

This doesn't happen with any of my other mice, though! She's the only one whose eyes reflect red.

@scaredymouse Huh, that's interesting! How weird that they look black but they are really ruby!

Here are some pictures of my ruby eyed girl, Splotchy (honorary mouse!). My other black eyed critters eyes don't light up like this in flash photos. It was such a surprise! Now when I really look at her eyes, I can see the deep ruby color. Fyi, ruby eyes range from deep red to near black.

Yeah, Splotchy is really pretty! I'm thinking you have a deep ruby eyed girl. I'm fascinated by ruby eyes. If Splotchers is in the right light, I can see a red tint to her eyes but most of the time its unnoticeable.
