Loud Environment?

Post by Everess on Tue Mar 21, 2017 5:59 pm

I want to try out mice again, or hamster, but let's talk about mice.
My house is fairly quiet, most of the time, but almost everyday the dogs will start barking, loudly, obviously they stop, in a short time, and they usually bark in the front of the house, while the tank is in the back (obviously, still in the house), so I don't think it will be that loud all the way over there, but it still worries me. The mouse tank is also near the washing machine and dryer, not right next to it, but still in the same "room" (I;m saying that because it is not exactly a room, because there are no doors and a hallway leads to it). It is seperated by a small wall though, do you think this will cause a problem? I don't consider it that loud, but to a mouse, it might.
Ill try to reply with a picture of the area.
BTW, my parents just want the mouse tank right there, not really anywhere else, I also want it there because it seems like the safest place, in the living room, the kitchen connects, the dogs bark, and the TV is on. My parents also don't want it in my room, who knows why because they don't smell that much, so that room is the only option really, I could try convince them to put it in my room, but they want that place the be the "pet room"
What is your feedback on this?
-It's a 20 gallon long tank-

I can't see the noise being a problem, really. I have three dogs who are rather, uh, talented at barking. On top of that, the mice are in my room, and I always have some sort of noise there during the day - usually some music, or YouTube. None of this noise ever seems to frighten the mice. I wouldn't worry about it.

Thank you so much for asking this! I was worried about something like this too. Smile

The mice will get used to it. Honestly, it's not great if their environment is too quiet either. Then every little noise they hear startles them. Anyway, they will be fine with the noise you described. Just make sure the dogs can't get to them. They would not enjoy a dog barking against the glass Wink

I need to vacuum an area in the same room as my mouse, will she be okay or should I remove her tank from the room?

I normally vacuum in a room with pets just fine. I do have an extremely noisy handheld vacuum, so I may move her somewhere else. I only use it when I'm cleaning the cages though, so I move my animal anyways. (I have a hamster but this should apply to mice as well.)
