plastikote
I'm having trouble finding clear plastikote in a tub... I think I remember there being talk about avoiding the spray for some reason... Is that true or can I use the clear coat spray?

Re: plastikote
I've always read not to use the spray but I'm not sure why.

Re: plastikote
Lol, yeah me too. I was hoping to find out if it is gossip or fact
My poor ASF, Agatha, had this little wooden house that is so gross. She won't sleep in anything else! But its unsanitary now! I wanted to sand it and plastikote it but only have spray...
It's just sitting im my shop, meanwhile poor Aggie is sleeping under the food dish table. She's a funny thing. I'll keep looking for the tub of plastikote and keep asking around.

Re: plastikote
I found my answer, direct from the technical department at plastikote. The spray is not safe for animals. And I was able to find the clear on ebay for about $17.00 a tub, including shipping from the UK. I guess that's not that bad.

Re: plastikote
Thanks for looking into it. Now we can know for sure next time it comes up. How big is the $17 tub? I was thinking about just using modge podge. I'm guessing the plastikote would bemore durable though?

Re: plastikote
I think it's only a few ounces. It's little.

Re: plastikote
Ok I'm going to be a child.....is it just me or do most of the eBay sales for plastikote say "fart dry" instead of fast dry?
I think I'll try modge podge. See how that works. If it doesn't do it I'll go with the plastikote next time. I'm hoping to order a wooden wheel for Hamtaro. Even though she doesn't pee near as much as the mice, it'll still need coating. My silent spinner kicked the bucket.

Re: plastikote
Yeah, I saw that. I got a good giggle out of it.
I've used modge podge for the hamsters before but they don't pee on everything. I don't knows how it would hold up for mice. Ive never used plastikote though, so I guess this will be a learning experience.

Re: plastikote
Please let me know how it compares.
And make sure you eat up your beans so you can fart it dry.

Re: plastikote
How did it go with the plastikote?
I did end up going with several coats of mod podge for the wooden wheel and platforms. With Hamtaro it's working out ok because she doesn't go as much as the mice, but the extra platform that I gave to the mice is not holding up so well. Even though I also lay down brown paper and paper towels, there's a lot of urine soaked through already. I did find out after the fact that there is such a thing as "top rack, dishwasher safe" mod podge......maybe that's the type I should have went with? Either way, next time I'll try the plastikote if you've had good results.

Re: plastikote
so far so good! I coated a wheel platform with it and it's been a few weeks and i haven't even had to wipe it down. it's not sticky and isn't any visible pee. maybe it beads up and rolls off? Ib also coated a sleep box with a flat top. I covered the flat top with a cardboard piece andput the food dish on top. But there is no pee down the sides or soaked into the bottom.
so far, I'm happy! It was pricey but it seems to be holding up great
