Bedding depth?

Post by Drago on Tue 30 May 2017, 9:29 pm

I've been more seriously considering mice as of late and now have a spare tank setup and ready for any possible additions. However, I'm not sure how deep the bedding should be. Would you say 5 inches or more? Less? Thank you Smile

I think 2-3 inches is the minimum. They love to borrow and dig around. I like to bury a bunch of tp tubes under the bedding. I usually start with about 3" because it seems to expand and fluff up white a bit!

Thank you so much! So would something over 3 in be okay? I love having super deep bedding in my cages lol. If not then I'll use just 3 Smile Thanks again

More than 3 is okay, too. Just be sure that none of your accessories can cave in and squish anyone.

2-3 inches is about what I use. I've given my mice deeper areas of bedding and dig boxes but they've never really used them too much.  They do push bedding around some, blocking off openings and stuff, but mine have never really tunneled the way my Chinese hamster or the hermit crabs do. Though like Scaredy said, they do seem to appreciate buried or at least partially buried boxes and tubes.

But your mice may be different so I would definitely try it out to see if they show any interest in digging.
