VERY old mouse. Please explain?
I have a black mouse called Nyx. She is five years old. Now, I know a lot of you won't believe me, but I have celebrated all five of her birthdays. It would be highly appreciated if someone who takes me seriously could try and explain how she could possibly live that long.

Re: VERY old mouse. Please explain?
Is she from a very good breeder or perhaps wild or wild lines? If not, incredible luck?
I'm part of a group on Facebook where there are a few who claim they've had mice that have lived well over the average lifespan. I believe a few of them have been said to reach a similar age as yours or at least close.
Edit to add: Here's a thread where I shared an article about some very old mice. https://www.petmousefanciers.com/t443-oldest-mice-in-the-world?highlight=oldest Not an answer, but interesting.

Re: VERY old mouse. Please explain?
I got her from a PetSmart when she was extremely tiny. I don't know how old she was then. I celebrated the "arrival day" I think she's nearing the end of her life now. Her mouth has twisted up on one side almost up to her eye, and her eye straight to her mouth has a deep, furless, often raw groove. Like a sick one-sided Joker smile. I'm worried it might interfere with her eating.

I wonder if her mouth is twisted on one side from a stroke?

I doubt it. The condition started with mucus in her eye. Then her eye lost a large ring of fur around it and she frewuently screatched it raw and/or bloody. Then, her mouth started twisting. It was very gradual and other than the obvious disfigurement and blinfness in the affected eye, she shows no signs of hindrance or even pain.

Hard to believe, yes. Impossible, no! How remarkable to have a mouse that old! I had a mouse just shy of 3 years old and boy was she worse for wear. So i can only imagine how rough your poor sweet little lady is. I dont know what would cause that mouth/eye problem. Strange.

Okay. We've officially reached the point where she can't eat. I've been giving her her normal food mixed with milk and put in a blender. Any other ideas?
