Cage Cleaning Question Empty Cage Cleaning Question

Post by Mice Are Cute Thu 20 Jul 2017, 9:53 pm

My mouse Grayson has a barred cage, and it gets dirty FAST!! He likes to climb the bars, and tends to urinate on them. Problem is, not even half a week later, a disgusting residue is left over from his pee. I cannot find a way to clean the bars correctly... Does anyone know? And is there any way to get him to stop climbing them?

Mice like to climb, there's not anything I know of that you can do to stop it. The only thing I'd recommend is maybe getting a tank if they are available in your area. A ten gallon tank is great for a single male, and you can usually find them for $5-10 in the US.

Have you tried soaking the cage in hot soapy water? That would probably be the best/easiest method. Then just rinse and dry well.

I've always used tanks for my mice. Super easy to clean.

Thanks Smile , I'll try that, and if it doesn't work, I'll look into a glass tank!

I use a tank for my male mouse, but when I used to have rats they were in a big 4 story wire cage. So in between major cleanings I would use a wet paper towel (just water) to wipe down the bars. Then when I did a full cage clean I would take everything out of the cage, put the cage in the shower and use the hand showerhead nozzle and rinse the whole cage with hot water. I never used any cleaner on their cage because the hot water cleaned it great. For mice, I prefer tanks, much easier to clean.
