Are these good items?

Post by RandomMouseLover05 on Mon 21 Aug 2017, 8:40 pm

Hoi! So I have been researching a bunch about mice, and I want to run over what I have found for products and see what experienced mice owners think! I want to make sure I get this right and if I end up getting a mouse, they live a long happy life! Please tell me what you think of them!

Tank: Aqua Culture 10 Gallon Empty Aquarium
Bedding: Carefresh (Does it matter what color?)
Timothy Hay: Carefresh (Just a tiny bit to chew on)
Water Bottle She-love 2 in 1 Hamster Water Bottle Holder Dispenser With Base Hut Small Animal Nest, Random Color
Food dish: Kaytee Stoneware Hamster Bowl, 3-Inch
Mouse food: Vitakraft VitaSmart Parakeet Food - High Diversity Formula
Hiding house: Kaytee Woodland Getaway Medium
Saucer: Generic Hamster Flying Saucer Exercise Wheel Jogging Running for Rat Gerbils Mice Chinchilla Guinea Pig Squirrel Small Animal Blue
Kaytee Large 8.5" Comfort Exercise Wheel (Should I go smaller? Because I feel like it's kind of big, but I'm not sure.)
Extra toy: Hamster Hedgehog Mouse Rat Toy Wooden Seesaw Hanging Ladder Bridge Exercise
Treats: Scraps at home! (Shouldn’t cost anything) I have Brown's Tropical Carnival Gourmet Treats in the Fruit and Nut variety for small animals. I'm not sure how good they are for mice and if I can use them I would take out the corn and give them only once in a while. There are a few ify sounding ingredient's like the corn and sulfur dioxide

Also is there any good chew toys you all recommend? Sorry it's so long! Thanks Heart Eyes

The list looks pretty good! I would save my money and not buy the hay, it is not needed. For the wheel, you could go smaller, but in my opinion, bigger is better when it comes to mouse things. The water bottle might work, unless you have a chewer! It is recommended that you research before feeding table scraps. How many mice are you considering? A ten gallon can hold up to three females. Good luck getting your little mice! Very Happy They will be happy with all those great things!

Thank you very much! If I do get one, I will be getting one male, that's why I was going to get a 10 gallon. That's good about the hay, I wasn't sure! For the wheel, okay good to know, I think what i'll do is get that, but if it ends up being to big for my liking, I can always go smaller. And true, hopefully they won't chew it up to much! What i've heard about that, is I have looked up a ton of safe foods, iffy ones, and ones that aren't safe. SAFE

Okay I don't expect you to read all of this, just to see if something stands out. Treats will only be once in awhile, but these are also for the vegetables. This is also from a youtuber who talked about this foods, and did research herself. I looked into some of these myself, and the ones I looked seemed fine, but I was going to run it by people, so much as well now!
SORRY SO LONG!

Tank: Awesome! Great for up to 3 females, or 1 male.
Bedding: Carefresh is great, any color is fine, just make sure you get the paper bedding, as they make wood bedding too and it isn't safe wood.
Timothy Hay: This is fine, just make sure you freeze it for about a week before use, to get rid of the bugs and such.
Water Bottle: I think any properly sized water bottle should be fine
Food dish: Great!
Mouse food: Great food choice!
Hiding house: Sounds good!
Saucer: Great, as long as it is at least 6.5 inches!
Kaytee Large 8.5" Comfort Exercise Wheel: As long as they can turn it, it is fine. By the way, it is totally fine and I'm sure they will enjoy it if you provide this extra wheel, but they don't need it, just the saucer is fine Smile
Extra toy: Sounds good! Keep in mind that mice like lots of extra toys though, even things around your house like boxes and toilet paper tubes will work!
Treats: What exactly do you mean by scraps? I suggest checking out the "safe foods" list before feeding anything. That treat you mentioned is one I have myself, but you have to be careful of what you feed. I avoid feeding them any nuts or raisins out of the mix, since they could potentially be dangerous.

Also, you will need some sort of wood chew. Willow sticks and PetCo wood blocks are favorites of my mice!

Oops forgot about the saucer size but i'll defiantly get one that's at least that big! And I was thinking since mice really like wheels and saucers i'd switch them out and use the other one I wasn't using for floor time! For toys I was planning on using toilet paper rolls like you said, and tissue boxes. I didn't actually think of just creating something from an actual box itself, so thanks for that!!! Now that you say the 'safe foods list' I thats where I found that list but i'll double check. And okay WHEW! Defiantly good to know about the treat! I wasn't exactly sure what to think of that one but I heard it was good. What's the usual thing out of there that you give to your mice? Thanks! Very Happy
Edit: Yup that's the list XD
