Unexpected death

Post by jess32247 on Mon 28 Aug 2017, 1:22 pm

I woke up today to find one of my girls had died unexpectedly during the night. She was totally normal last night. Completely fine with nothing out of the ordinary. My boyfriend and I took her out and played with her for a while last night and didn't notice anything wrong at all. No signs of sickness, bites, or anything. She was about a year+ old but not even the oldest in the group. Her sister passed away 2-3 weeks ago but we had a feeling she might of had something small wrong for a while. But Grey was 100% herself.

We've only had mice for about a year now so these have been the only deaths we've encountered so far. Are things like this just a normal part of owning mice? :/

Unfortunately, on average mice only live to be 1 to 1.5 years old. Especially mice from untracked lines. Sad It's an extra special thing when they make it to 2+. And really, really extra special when they make 3+.

Then there's the fact that mice hide illness very, very well. So often times we don't see any signs until it's already too late. Sad

I'm sorry for your loss. If you want to go over your care, just to triple check, we can let you know if anything stands out. But chances are it's not something you did or didn't do.
