Terrariums? Empty Terrariums?

Post by TheDirewolfMice on Mon 25 Sep 2017, 12:03 pm

Has anyone tried using a reptile terrarium for mice? The ones I've seen have doors that you can open really wide, and you could easily hand things from the screen to make it multiple levels. Is there any reason this wouldn't work for mice?

If the floor is appropriate size (there's a calculator linked under Mouse Housing), a terrarium should be fine. I considered them before, too. Keep in mind that you need easy access to every part of their enclosure, if you plan to try for vertical space. This is useful for taming/play time and in case of emergencies.

I think they could work fine. Just pay attention to the lid. I know the front opening exo terra tanks that I've had have a thinner screening on the lid that mice could chew through easily. I was going to fix my 36×18 in exo terra (bottom's broken out) and make a new, more secure lid but instead I just went with the 40g breeder I had on hand.
