Digestive Issues?? Empty Digestive Issues??

Post by MouseOnHauntedHill Fri 27 May 2016, 5:33 pm

So, my little mouse Gus is acting normal, eating and drinking as usual, etc, but he seems to not be able to void his bowels by himself, either that or has trouble cleaning that area properly? I raised him from a fuzzy, and used to massage his tummy so he could go potty--which worked fine, and he was going to the bathroom normally for a while until a few days ago when I noticed there is dried poo caked around his anal area, which also looks a bit swollen. I have to use a damp Q-Tip to clean the area out, after which he goes potty normally (and very much--there seems to be a lot "backed up"), but several hours later it starts over again.

Is he dehydrated, or constipated? Would bene-bac probiotic gel help his digestive system? Or is it simply a matter of him not cleaning himself well, and letting the old poo "clog" him up once it dries? He seems fine otherwise, and his brother doesn't have the same issue--compared to his brother, Gus has a much larger/more "open" looking anus which worries me. Confused

Any help would be appreciated!

If he's constipated, that is a life-threatening emergency.  A safe home remedy that can be tried is to  give a drop or two of warm water mixed with Karo syrup (corn syrup) in a 50/50 mixture.
