Allergic To Carefresh?
So I meant to ask this weeks ago but just kept forgetting! When I made my post about food I mentioned his thinning fur which I suspected was from his diet as the mouse kibble he is eating is a little high in protein. I have ordered his new food long ago and the parakeet mix has arrived and he loves it but the supreme selective blocks aren't here yet since the bag is shipping from the UK.
Anyways I switched his carefresh bedding to aspen shavings and literally within days his fur filled back in and his energy levels went right up. Nothing else in his environment had changed which leads me to suspect that he might be allergic to carefresh. Has anyone else ever had a pet that didn't do well with carefresh? Is it even possible to be allergic to it?
pics of how lovely he is now!

Happy to hear his fur has filled back in. I don't remember hearing of anyone talking about any allergies to Carefresh, but it does sound like that's what it was. He sure is a handsome little man!!

How long ago did you switch his food and how long after that did you notice a difference in his fur? One way to know for sure would be to try Carefresh again and see if his fur thins again. I think it would be pretty rare but not impossible to be allergic to paper bedding. Was it colored? Did it have baking soda?

He is still eating the food he's always been on as I'm waiting to toss that till his new food comes in but the parakeet mix was added into his diet around 2 weeks ago? However I switched up his bedding 4 weeks ago without a change to his diet and that was when his fur grew back in and he got more energy. The bedding was just the plain white one called Carefresh natural complete paper bedding. Not sure if it has baking soda as I can't find the ingredients on the bag. I have a little bit of the bag left so I could try some in his cage to see how he reacts to it.
