What do y'all use to temporarily hold your mice?
I haven't been able to decide what I should use to put my mice in while I clean out their cage. I usually go for a bucket, but I don't know how sanitary they are. I would use a cardboard box, but I'm afraid that they can climb out of it.
I decided to ask the forum to help. (You people are very helpful. Thanks for that

I put up a poll

Hi, I use one of the small plastic Critter Keepers. I put a little bedding from his tank and some treats in there to keep him occupied while I clean his tank.

I switch it up a lot, sometimes I use a critter keeper, sometimes a small bin, and sometimes my giant play bin. In the critter keeper or small bin, I sometimes put in a hide and some treats to keep them happy.

Normally I either hand the boys to my hubby or let them have tabletop playtime with all their toys (in the same room I'm cleaning in so I can keep an eye on them).
The table is prepped so they can't climb down, but normally they're too busy playing to find the edge. Its also in the centre of the room with benches rather than chairs. Colin particularly enjoyed this time and my new boys do to. Pumpkin and Basil had their first tabletop session today with my hubby is attendance to see what their reaction was while I did some cleaning. (They loved it).
I obviously wouldn't do this if I don't trust the mouse not to get off the table.
If I can't use the table for whatever reason I use their travelling box. (Similar to this one: http://www.petsathome.com/shop/en/pets/aladino--animal-carrier )

I use a 27×16 inch (at the base) sterilite bin, that has a nice locking lid to keep them safe/busy during cleaning and for play time.

I have a beer flat on top of a box on my bed.
It's high enough he doesn't want to jump out. If he does he'll just land on my bed. I've had him long enough now i trust him and there is no way out of my room anyways.

For multiple mice, I have a secure container like a bin or critter keeper. For my single boys, I just plop them on my shoulder and they watch me work.

I have a 5 gallon acquarium with a lid, and put the little boy in that with his little house. For the girls cage, I just clean one side while they watch from the other side in their houses. Then I move their house (and them) to the other side and clean the other side. The leader of the group usually likes to supervise or help! They are used to this and don't seem to mind.

When I used to have my gerbil boys, Pip and Pup, I would do the same thing as you do with your girls. Before whenever I took them out and put them in a temporary holding container, they hated that and I felt it was stressing them out. So I started cleaning the bin with them in it. One half, then the other half. They actually seemed to enjoy that
