Hello! ~
Hey! I'm Dawn and I'm new to the community! I've always liked mice, however having 2 cats makes it difficult to own any as pets. I once had a fuzzy for about 2 weeks until my cats got to him when I accidentially left the cage open
After a year or so I've decided to try my hand at mouse owning again! I secretly got a little feeder mouse at the pet store when my roommate wasn't looking. I currently own one small black mouse named Luna- whom I assume is a female. She's at the hopper stage- a few weeks old. She is black with a white moon shaped marking on her back. I might upload pictures sometime.
It's very difficult to keep her away from my cats. I keep her up on the highest shelf possible and only handle her when the door is closed. I have had a few incidents, however. Today I heard squeaking and found my baby pinned by her tail in the hallway by one of my cats. I checked her for damage but luckily she was OK
I am very new to mouse owning so I know nothing about it. All I have is some experience with gerbils in the past.
Please message me or comment or however this forum works with ideas or suggestions or just if you want to be friends

Re: Hello! ~
Hello! Welcome to the forum! What kind of habitat do you have for your mice? I suggest a tank with a metal mesh lid, locked with screen clips. This is generally the safest type of housing - especially with cats around. The cats can't get in, and the mouse can't get out.
Can't wait to see pictures!

Welcome!
I have many mice and many cats... It's definitely possible to safely keep both! The type of housing AMO mentioned is great at keeping mice in and cats out. Check out the "Pet Mouse Info" link on the sidebar for a ton of great additional information!!

Re: Hello! ~
I have a small 10 gallon tank with a mesh lid , but there are no lids. . My cats can easily dislodge it. I don't have the money to afford a better tank however.

Re: Hello! ~
You mean no locks? Lock clippy things are only a few dollars, but you can also try putting a heavy book or brick on top instead.

Re: Hello! ~
As Peachy said, locks for the metal mesh lids are very inexpensive and that will do the job.

Re: Hello! ~
Thanks for the tips everyone....
since I'm so new I have a lot of questions.
Mind checking out my most recent post? It's about food for mice (it's urgent)
thanks!
