Thank you. I'm planning to release him tomorrow. I'll send him to the same spot I think because everywhere else is inhabited by stray cats. If I find another mouse with no tail, then I'll be sure he is just returning. Laughing

Check out this photo comparison. Do you guys think it's Foster? He has the same habits and he stayed in the same room and corner Foster did.

@Lil_Foster personally I think it looks like him! No real way to tell for sure, but from what I can see it definitely looks like it at least.

The tail fell off at the same place of the original injury, so the likelihood that its Foster is actually pretty large! It'd be rare to find two little mice with near identical injuries.

Pretty much any wild mouse of the same species looks the same, in my opinion. But I wouldn't be surprised at all if that's him. It's very possible he returned. Smile
But... I personally don't quite think it's him.

Maybe there's a tail swiper out there and something about you says, "Safe house." Razz
I'd assume it's Foster again saying, "You can't get rid of me that easy!" Laughing

I'm not working with the best equipment here, but I measured the approximate length of uninjured mousetail on the original Foster and compared it to his eye-to-eye distance on the same picture.  Then I measured the approximate length of full mousetail on the new Foster and compared it to his eye-to-eye distance on that same picture.  The ratio of each is around 3. Is that a common location for mice to get their tails caught? I do not know.  If little Foster has returned, well popcorn is popcorn, so those must be some really awesome frites!

Or else he just adores you.

Look all over the little one and see if there is any mark you might use to recognize it by, such as a freckle on a foot or a vein pattern in an ear -- anything!  Then if you find another little shortie-tail after the next release, you'll know for sure if you're getting the same mouse.  In fact, look over previous pictures of Foster for anything like that to compare to your current visitor.  And spoil this little one while you have him.  Or her.

Whatever the truth is, you at least have the basis for a compelling children's book.

Well I'm not surprised if this feels like a "Safe House" because I'm an absolute animal lover and long time birdie owner. And I absolutely love the idea that he "adores" me and returned for me. Razz

Ok so before I release him I want to make sure I do it right this time as last time I was so sad with myself that I let him out in the cold.

So here's where I released him last, and where I want to release him again (inside that brick igloo filled w sunflowers):

And here is the weather for this week:

I'll be here until January. But it will be even colder then. When and where should I release him?

That weather sounds fine. I think it's okay to let him go whenever you want/are ready to. Remember, he is wild. Smile

It's cold but if you're leaving in Jan when it'll be colder and that's the only other option, then now would be better.

I don't know if that brick thing is a good home though. Is it an oven thing? Might be better to build a shelter and hide it somewhere nearby.

Then you can stuff one area with warm bedding and another with food. It would give him a great start.

Anywhere nearby he is sure to be eaten by a stray kitty. This place with the brick house is further off to the forest and not close to any cats. It isn't an oven, but people would put wood there and make a fire. I looked inside, there isn't alot of ash, if any. It either hasn't been used in a while or washed out. Anyways in this cold, no one uses this area.

Unfortunately I don't have the material or conditions to make him a tiny shelter. Sad But there is a pile of cut woods under that brick house. There's alot of woods he can hide under and a lot of dry leaves to build a home.

To be honest, my fiance and I are temporarily here working on his visa which is completed in January. We are struggling immensely ourselves and the conditions here are poor. It is almost like a survivor game, we barely have any heat at all. There's thousands of stray cats and dogs here (so far I've seen 2 dead cats and a puppy on the streets), and the idea of saving a mouse is absurd to these guys. It's an old country side with old-fashioned minded people. And our actions here are sooo limited. Sad

We wanted to buy him a cage and have someone care for him until spring... but I'm certain the moment I am out the door he will be dumped out in the snow. Sad They already set up kill traps and a glue trap before I saw and removed them... it's really a sad situation for me and I love the little guy so much.

Ok. Then there is his best bet. Just be sure to leave him a nice food stash and some warm bedding. Shredded paper towel or tissue. He'll be ok. Smile
