Re: Mice + Depression
I took the advice when we went out today and since we were a town over, they had some girls. I got a young brindle girl! She's just now getting some darker markings and is, for the most part, very orange. I saw her genitals (or maybe her sisters? They looked the same) at the store so I'm fairly sure I didn't get a boy by accident this time.
Her names Garcia, as planned. Currently settling in the quarantine cage. I'll get some pictures when I can.
Hopefully Graham takes to her. How often is it that females don't get along?

Re: Mice + Depression
Yay, congrats on Garcia! She's super cute, I love that shade of yellow!
Females seem to do well in introductions more often than not... I've only ever had one problem with an introduction, and it eventually did work out. That mouse was a sweetie, but she had a territorial side that complicated things. More common problems are the dominance behaviors that occur after everyone is all together, but those still aren't common enough that I would worry.

Re: Mice + Depression
Thanks! She's very skittish as it goes. Can't blame her, a car ride in that cup must seem like hell for a mouse.
She's starting to come over and see what I'm doing when I'm nearby, rather than running, though. It's a quick improvement; young mice are so curious.
I'll start taming once she settles more and try to get a better picture!

Awwww so sad!
Poor Graham. It looks like you're doing the right thing though, getting her a new friend! I've never had to keep a mouse alone for more than a few days (both my last two girls of that colony were sick and passed within a few days of each other), but even then, it wasn't any fun. Girls are a girl's best friend! I can't wait to hear how your introductions work out.
