New Mouse
After losing Sam (may she rest in peace) Phoebe needs a new friend. I considered getting a mousling to raise (still considering it) but something else has come up. My dad works at Petco as a veterinarian. He has been checking out the mice for me by sticking his hand in the tank and seeing what happens. Today he had a tiny little albino girl walk into his hand. He will be bringing her home tonight! I am super excited, nervous, and a little curious as to what this new mouse will bring. Name suggestions appreciated!

Re: New Mouse
That sounds fun! Its something I've considered doing myself. You may want to try with two mouslings, though, in case one doesn't make it. It's sweet to rescue something that's never had any experience at life.
My first question would be hows your schedule? Feedings are super frequent and cannot be skipped, so if you're a busy person, the first week or so won't be great on you.

Re: New Mouse
After Samantha, the next logical name would be: Tabitha
... or are those "Bewitched" Seasons 1-5 DVDs having too much influence on me?

Tabitha would also be a cute name for a Tabby cat

Re: New Mouse
Phoebe and Jam is adorable. Neat that your dad was able to look out for a new friend.
(Just a note... taking a baby away from Mom just for the experience is an unnecessary and cruel risk. It'd be better to adopt one after they're weaned.
But if you must, you'll have a better chance of succeeding after they're a week old. Whatever you plan to feed won't be as beneficial as milk from Mom. After a week they'll have a good start on nutrition and be furry, so less likely to get too cold.)

Re: New Mouse
Oh shoot, did a baby get taken away from its mom? D: I thought that by mousing, we just meant like a very young, freshly weaned mouse, like Dandelion when I first got her.

Re: New Mouse
It sounds like Jam is weaned, but in her original post jubilee said she wanted a pinky. Since she says she's still considering it I thought it was important to address.

Re: New Mouse
That's great that you're getting a new mouse! That's always exciting.
And as Peachy said, that's great that your dad was able to find her for you. =D
Last year at a pet store three hours away, there were so many different mice of varying ages: Pinkies with their mothers still, hoppers, etc. Oh, how I wanted one of those babies (they were for snake food anyways, I'm positive).
They even had rat pups.

Re: New Mouse
So the little mouse wanted to name herself. Within 15 minutes of her arrival and placement into the holding tank, she left. Literally left. A rapid search commenced. The mouse was found under my sisters' bed (yes the same bed) and place back into the tank. She had somehow managed to squeeze under the lid. Her new name is Henrietta Houdini (Aka Henny). Will send pics sometime tomorrow. My Dad had told me she was small, but I had no idea she was soooo tiny! She cannot be older than a couple weeks! She is super friendly and sweet, but I am already concerned about her health. She appears dehydrated and makes a little clicking noise, so I am concerned about a respiratory infection. How do I treat for a respiratory infection? I am not sure if she has one or not but I want to treat her anyway.
