Mice Names! :)
This is to be a fun topic on mouse names; why they're named what they are, and--if you know--what they mean. Also, if anyone is trying to think of a name for their [new] mouse, feel free to come here and also ask for suggestions, instead of making a new thread. =D
I'll start (and I'm only going to be including the mice I currently have):
Daniela is my Daniel's namesake, and her name is just a feminine version of Daniel, obviously [which means, 'God is my judge'].
And then I named Irene after TobyMac's song "Irene." That song is so beautiful, and come to find out, Irene's name means "peace" [in Spanish, at least?]. I wouldn't say "peace" 'describes' her very good, but oh well.
Oh, and, what is your mouse's nickname, if they have one?
Daniela's official nickname is Dani II (Dani for short), and Irene's...well, she doesn't have one.
That's all, I think.
Have a blessed day!

Re: Mice Names! :)
Disregarding the mice I had when I was much younger...
Maier was a self black named after Vivian Maier, my favorite photographer. When I got her a friend, I stuck with the theme and chose another B+W photographer. I named her Graham, after Robin Graham. She's a PEW.
Ares was an accidental boy I had gotten and kept for few days. He had a tear in his ear and thus I named him after the god of war. I like the hellenic religion, so it reflected my interests.
Garcia's full name is Penelope Garcia, so what we call her switches from things like Baby Girl, Red, Penny, Penelope and of course Garcia. She's named after a character on criminal minds. Not sure why. I was binging it at the time.
If I ever get a hairless I want to name it Gnochi. Potato pasta. Will that change? Maybe.

Re: Mice Names! :)
My first ever pet mice (when I was a child) were named Tom and Jerry after the cartoon cat and mouse.
Then years later as an adult I got Cheeseburger and Bacon, which were named by my children. Obvious meaning. Cheeseburger was often shortened to Cheese.
When we got Hashbrown and Twix a few months later, I let my kids choose their names too within the food theme we had going.
When I adopted Daryl, he came with the name Daryl Dixon. Since I am a fan and it seemed to fit, it stayed. My husband used to call him Double D or Dirty Daryl because he didn't enjoy Daryl's scent marking so much.
Next I adopted Celyn and Rina from a gentleman and purchased Seren from a pet store around Christmas time 2015. I chose the names this time. Celyn means holly, Rina means joy, and Seren means star.
The following January we picked up Hazel. I didn't want to continue the Christmas theme, so my youngest son helped me choose the name Hazel from a list of random names that I liked.
The last group of mice I picked up (so far) are Tilda, Eulyn, and Arsinoe. Arsinoe was the main character in a book I had just finished reading. I can't remember the title now but if anyone's interested I'll dig it up. EDIT: Found it! Tilda is after a character on the show Into The Badlands. And Eulyn is after the costume designer for the Walking Dead. I saw her in an interview and thought her name was very beautiful and unique.
Love it!!

Re: Mice Names! :)
Just a comment to start, regarding "Gnocchi" for a name: "Potato Dumpling" was one of my dozens of sweet names for little April.
The list of mousies that have graced my existence always appears at the bottom of my entries to this forum. Here's a little about them:
A little dark brown mouse infiltrated our big 1902 house in Los Angeles for a while. It would zip here and there, be spotted running this way or that up or down a hall. None of the cats in the house, none of the dogs, ever had a problem with it. Turned out one of its "happy places" was to sleep or cuddle in my blue sweatshirt when I'd drop it on the floor near my closet. Due to the ephemeral nature of the little one, and the fact that I did not know if it was male or female, I named it "Zephyr".
Next up, we had a light beige-ish mouse find its way into the office one winter. It used to come out late at night, while I was still there burning midnight oil, and it would climb up the cables for my computer onto my desk and eat my candy and Ricolas. My Ricolas with purple wrappers! It even ate my foil-wrapped chocolate mouse with a little string tail, made in Germany -- so I informally named it "Coco". We spent several late nights at work together. Then an attempt at humane trapping went horribly wrong, and I still cry over that little one. Even if I'm offered a chance to go to Heaven one day, I'll have to point out what happened to little Coco and decline the invitation.
Next up, June a few years ago we had babies coming out of the wall of our swampside office, onto the sidewalk right in front. Full fur, eyes open, but tiny flat ears and still very small. For some reason they could not seem to find their way back where they came from, and I got the feeling they were coming out in desperation because Mama Mouse was gone. The first one I found on that Friday morning, adopted it indoors later in the day for safety, and tried my best to give it the care it needed. For the time being, I just called it Mus-Mus. That night, I found the second one outside the front door; it was too late -- I couldn't save it. Mus-Mus went to Mousie Heaven the next afternoon, Saturday, while I was attempting to care for him/her back at the house for a few hours. Returning to work later the same afternoon, I found the third, also on the front sidewalk, and I couldn't save that one either. It seemed Mus-Mus was a baby boy, but I was not certain; the other two I did not know at all. But I wanted them to have names, so when I thought of them in the forever to come they would have that little piece of dignity and individuality. Mus-Mus became "Bobby", because he (or she) left this earth on the anniversary of the day Bobby Kennedy left this earth; the little one I found at night became "Noche" because that is "night" in Spanish; and the little one I found in the afternoon became "Paiva" because that is (almost) "day" in Finnish.
Finally, April was April because she was just so obviously an April.
I love them all. I miss them all.

Re: Mice Names! :)
My current girls are the "Gamer Girls", since they're all named after board games!
It started out with Trouble - I ended up getting mice because of her, she was underneath a flipped over food bowl in the tank in Petsmart and I asked an employee to 'free her' with no intention of buying a mouse... but there she was, and I had to get her. I thought she would be a trouble-maker, hence Trouble. Turns out (other than her medical troubles) she's the least troublesome pet in the house!
Yahtzee was adopted alongside Trouble, so I just went along with the board game names.
Checkers was my third addition, she's white with blackish/dark brown patches that make her kind of look like a checkerboard, so it seemed to fit!
Clue was one of my two most recent acquisitions; she's a PEW, I fell in love with her since she reminded me of my favorite mouse from my childhood who was also a PEW. Clue (or Clue-Doe) is obviously named after the board game Clue. I had been eyeing up cute girls in the pet stores and hypothetically naming them "Clue" since before I had Checkers, so it was only a matter of time, right?
and Mahjong is the other girl I got most recently; again with the tabletop games theme, of course. She's my first long-hair, so I went with something a little more elegant-sounding. Plus, her little bands/stripes kind of remind me of the markings on some mahjong tiles.
Pumpkin is of course not within the theme, but he's a special case. He and his accidentally litter were causing problems for Petsmart since around Halloween, and he's an undermarked brindle who looks very orange... and like brindles tend to be, he's nice and round and fat. So, how could his name not be Pumpkin?
We did give him the middle name Harvest, which is a reference to the video game Harvest Moon, so it sort of-kinda fits, lol

River, ah, yes, I remember Ares! He was such a gorgeous boy.
Too bad you couldn't keep him, though.
CallaLily, Rina is a perfect name, don't you think? Since I'm sure she brought you lots of joy!
Merci, I'm sorry you've lost your mice.
-Hugs-
Chiroptera, haha, you know, I actually didn't really notice that you named your mice after games!
Thanks to you who've participated; I appreciate it, and I hope you've had fun sharing your mouse stories!
