Hello from New Zealand!
Hi everyone,
I live in NZ where we don't have any show-type mice, and varieties are very limited. I currently have 5 does:
Aurora, 2-year-old dove pied.
Berlin, 8 week old black spotted tan (Pied)
China, 8 week old chocolate pied
Kenya, 8 week old champagne pied
Fiji, 8 week old long haired chocolate dutch
I'm just starting to get into genetics and breeding as I really want to develop better quality mice in NZ. I don't have any bucks yet but plan on breeding in the near future. I'm looking forward to meeting new mousey people and learning lot of new things!

Beautiful, Juniper! Especially Fiji and Berlin!
(But I'm partial to the red eyes, too

Re: Hello from New Zealand!
I need to come on here more often lol.
Welcome! Also from NZ, Whangarei specifically - use to breed mice for many years, attempting to breed towards show-type (eh, I made a lot of progress but they were still so far!).
If you want to chat genetics etc, Im more than happy too!

Hi AppleCheeks!
Nice to see someone else from NZ; I'm from Rotorua.
I'm researching lots about genetics as I want to breed mice in the future too. Oh how I wished we had show-type mice over here, as well as mouse shows would be fantastic!

Re: Hello from New Zealand!
I was.. getting there. Larger, lower set ears, decent face shape, a definite improvement in tail set. I did end up getting a bit side-tracked by my ruby-eyed/odd-eyed line that cropped up though hahaJuniperBerry55 wrote:Hi AppleCheeks!

Some clubs do include mice in their shows - the local rabbit and cavy club up here includes mice and rats in their shows and they're working on judging it more towards a standard than just pets

Re: Hello from New Zealand!
There were so many fantastic breeders around a few years ago, all with great knowledge of genetics and all with similar goals of improving the quality of mice here in NZ. Sadly, just like myself, we all ended up leaving the mouse breeding scene and our lines have long since been lost.JuniperBerry55 wrote:Wow I love the ears on her, I can tell you've worked hard. This was the guy who I started with, horrible traits to be honest but a beautiful temperament and he lived til he was 4 so I knew health wise, it was a good start. Though like I said, he had some horrible traits - one of which was an incredibly high set tail which along with his previous owner providing him with a incredibly small wheel caused him to have some pretty bad wheel tail (his tail curled over his back). Definitely not where I should have started off haha.
