Heart Failure- Does anybody have experience with this?
I took Nicole to the vet last week because she was sleeping a lot more and I heard her making wheezing sounds that I was worried might be from a respiratory infection. The vet told me that she had right sided heart failure and the wheezing was probably from fluid buildup. She had gotten pudgier over the past few months, but I thought it was nothing a diet change wouldn't help. I feel so bad for not taking her to the vet sooner.
The vet gave me some Vetmedin with sweetener but Nicole absolutely does not want to take the oral syringe. I have been giving it to her by putting it on her fur since it's only 1ml. Is this alright to do? She seems to be more active, but that could just be because I'm taking her out the tank more to give her medicine.
Does anybody else have a mouser with heart failure?

Never had a mouse with heart failure before but yes, wheezing can definitely be a symptom...as in most animals.
I can't offer much advice but putting it on her fur or paws is a good last resort. Do you scruff her or is that risky for her heart? If you can't restrain her to administer it then it'll be fine, just make sure she licks it off before her sisters do.

I'm scared of scruffing her because she fights so hard to back up out of my grip. I don't want to accidentally hurt her or stress her out more than necessary. But I do keep her in the carrier until she grooms it all off.

I imagine too much stress isn't great for heart failure anyways...that should be good enough, maybe even preferable for such a situation .

I've had critters with heart failure. I agree, don't stress her out. The medication is palliative anyway, it's not going to cure her. It is just supposed to make her feel better. So i say, smear what you can on her fur and let her groom it off.
Sorry about your girl. I hope you get some good time with her.

Yeah, the vet explained that to me! I just don't want to be administering it wrong and her not to get what she needs. Because the fluid build up was restricting her breathing at first, I don't want her to go back to that state. As long as putting it on her fur won't lead to bald spots and she seems to be getting it all, I'll continue to do that.
Thanks for the help you guys!
