Re: What are you doing today?
Wednesday is one of my Museum volunteer days (Friday is the other). It was really nice and quiet today as there were no school, camp or Boys and Girls Club groups scheduled. Had just under 70 visitors to my Geology Cart in Mineral Hall during my 3-hour shift and almost everyone was excited (or at least interested) in the items I had out for display and discussion... except kids under 3 who want to put everything, including fossilized Triceratops poop, into their mouths
! Museum life will radically change once the school groups start up again: we can have up to 600 kids all at once between 10:00 and noon -- that's a double-Yikes!!

Re: What are you doing today?
Thank you! I love stacking stuff, who knew my child would love destroying it?
(I agree about the Dean thing. lol)
Volunteering at a museum sounds fun. The only one I've been to is pretty small, so maybe 600 kids would be a bit less shocking in a bigger building, but
. I can't even imagine.

Re: What are you doing today?
Today I've been finishing this cute cross-stitch! Its for my nephew's birthday card (because he recently got given a dwarf hamster by his parents). I absolutely love doing cross-stitch, but particularly cards. Currently I have a big nature sampler on the go, but when I finish that, for my next big project I'd like to cross-stitch a picture of Colin

Ack, that's the cutest. I've been wanting to try cross stitch but haven't found a pattern I like.

Re: What are you doing today?
I'm in Blackpool, with some family. They feed us to much
For breakfast they made us a poached egg, a slice of toast, two really big pieces of bacon, a British breakfast sausage, beans, and a fried tomato. It was SO GOOD, but we were stuffed afterwards! And then they were trying to get us to eat a banana or a piece of toast with marmalade (which my mom, sister and I finally shared) or a yogurt! Man! And last night's dinner was just as much. We'll be fat when we leave!
Anyway they left us on our own in Blackpool today, so we went shopping around there and then went into a little cafe place for tea and scones with cream & jam. Yummmmm...
That was all we needed for lunch/snack. We have to be ready for the pie they're making for dinner tonight. It's funny because they call breakfast breakfast, but lunch is 'dinner', afternoon tea/snack is called 'high tea', and dinner is called 'tea'. It's really weird. But it is England! It's really cool. But I could never live here. It's too hectic (driving is a nightmare), and the weather is horrible.

That's absolutely adorable, very thoughtful and I'll bet he'll be just tickled with it! I used to be into needlepoint a long, long time ago but never tried cross-stitch.

Hehehe this cracked me up (sorry!). The driving is ok if you learn in England...city centres are worst to drive in though!
I think the names of the meals depend on your family and possibly where in the country you were brought up. I was brought up in Essex and we had "breakfast, lunch and dinner" but only if lunch was mostly cold (like sandwiches or salad or something like that). If lunch was hot (say a Sunday roast) then it was "breakfast, dinner and tea". Wierd when you think about it really :S
Afternoon tea will always be afternoon tea or high tea to me...mmm...scones...(sadly not what I have every day for afternoon tea...normally its a biscuit if I'm hungry).
Enjoy Blackpool Artistwolf!
@CinnamonPearl, @abeona, @MesaMouse - thank you for the kind comments! I'm really hoping he likes it...a surprising amount of time went into it! I love cross-stitch. There's loads of great patterns online for free nowadays too, although I do like to try and support designers by buying patterns because it only seems fair!

Stephlisa that cross stitch is adorable!
artistwolf it sounds like you've discovered what we call the "full english" breakfast
I don't think the city centres are the worst places to drive, I think it's those absolutely tiny country roads which are barely big enough to fit a single car down
I'm going to Blackpool on wednesday! My boyfriend has family there so we're going to visit and do all the touristy stuff like the roller coasters
Speaking of sunday roasts though... Someone recently told me that this is an exclusively British and Irish thing... and I am completely baffled by this!

The typical food served may be different but growing up we always went to my paternal grandparents house for Sunday dinner (which was served around 3pm). Usually what my Gran called "pot pie" but what my mother's family calls beef and dumplings (slippery dumplings). A salad came along and chocolate pudding for dessert. Oh I can almost taste it now.

Btw, Abeona your baby is adorable. Love the hamster cross-stitch and really enjoying hearing about your trip Artist.

Thank you, CallaLily.
I hope you're having the best time, Artist!! For some reason I thought your trip was later... I don't know which July I was thinking.

Thanks

(Nom nom nom...full english...haven't had one of those for years...)
I'm used to those absolutely tiny country lanes...most of the nature reserves I volunteer at are down some of them (although I admit the ones down in Devon and Cornwall can be scary!). Maybe it depends where you're used to driving!
Sunday roasts are amazing! More people should have them...although, its hard to beat Sunday brunch...not sure which I prefer...(the way we cook it, the roast is certainly healthier...)

Stephlisa: hahahaha I imagine I sound funny to any actual British people XD Wow, that is really weird! I mean, you don't really even drink tea while you're eating dinner, so why...?
Yeah, I don't believe I've had real scones before so that was awesome
And yes, I forgot to mention that cross-stitch! It looks so awesome!!!
MouseLover: lol yes! It was just such a huge breakfast! Even the hotels didn't give us that much!!
And it's not even the narrow roads—you have to add manual cars (which my dad knows how to drive so it isn't really a problem but still), no parking ANYWHERE, and no time to actually make decisions... In America, everything is so big that even simple things like taking offramps on highways have tons of space for you to decide to get on the offramp and stuff. Idk, it's just so different! Lol
