What do your mice do for you?
I hear so much about what we do for our mice, so I wanted to hear about what our mice do for us!
What do our mice give back, that enhances our lives? Mice are a joy to have, but everyone is different, so everyone gets something completely different from their mice.
Is it the mousey companionship? The comfort from their innocent hearts? Entertainment from silly mousey behavior? Mood lift from their adorable cuteness? Stress relief? Anxiety reducer?
I'll start. I got something completely unexpected from my mice, something i wasn't expecting to get. After I graduated from college and got my Bachelors in Computer Science, I got a job. But for some reason I felt empty. Graduating college was something my parents, family, peers, and mentors kept telling me to devote my life to, it was "the most important thing" and I did devote myself to it. When when it was done, I felt empty, because somehow, with all the hype people make of "achieving higher education" I thought it would make me happy, but it didn't. I was frustrated with the go to work, go home, sleep, repeat, lifestyle (although it is a very privileged lifestyle, and I was very grateful for it). When I discovered mice, I wanted it to be a side hobby but it turned out to be so much more! I am excited to wake up every morning and check on them all, I am excited to feed them every night! They are happy to see me, and it's a very uplifting feeling! (Actually some some my mice are afraid of me too). Their big and unique personalities always keep me on my toes. I can never be bored of them. They cured my post-graduate depression. I am happier with them in my life.
Sorry that was longer than I intended...
Anyways, Please share your stories of how they give joy to you!

Re: What do your mice do for you?
What a nice topic
I often suffer from bouts of insomnia. I don't know why, I just go through phases where I just can't switch off and I just don't sleep. Sometimes insomnia feels so lonely - it feels like you're the only person in the whole world who's awake. This is why having a (mostly) nocturnal pet is great for me
If I can't sleep, I can just look over at the mice and see what they're up to. Their cute little antics make me feel less stressed out about being awake.
I just love their sweet little faces, they really cheer me up even on the hardest of days. And they're just so entertaining. Violet is particularly acrobatic and she's all black - she looks like a little ninja going about her cage
I could sit by their cage and watch them for hours, I just adore them

For me, there are few things better than seeing a happy mouse. Whether it's because you made a new MES for them or found a new treat they love. Seeing them spark happily just makes my day and it's such an easy thing to do. I have dealt with depression and anxiety for most of my life but no matter what I'm feeling at any given moment, taking time out to watch them or play with them can make everything negative fade away.

Re: What do your mice do for you?
MouseLover, I had brutal insomnia for many years. It turned out that I was simply tweaking on common food chemicals such as dyes, preservatives, pesticides, herbicides and flavourings.
Once I 'went organic,' the insomnia disappeared. Oh, and I could drink real coffee again! I'd been on decaf for a year or two because (I thought) that my heart couldn't handle caffeine. To my amazement, I could drink fully-caffeinated coffee all day as long as it was organic.
In the years since, I've been treating myself to an indulgent habit: I let myself fall asleep sitting up in my armchair until I wake up a little bit later and realise, "Time to go to bed." Niiiice.

Re: What do your mice do for you?
Well for me, I'm a very solitary person. I have friends and family and they're very wonderful, but I like and need to spend a lot of time alone or else I can get irritated and volatile. But even though I love spending time with myself, I don't really like having only myself for company. That's what my girls are to me. They keep me company when I'm spending time alone, playing piano or reading webcomics or surfing the internet on a late Friday night. It's a completely different environment, doing things with my girls keeping me company or doing them alone. I always take one out when I go downstairs to get a snack or a cup of tea in the middle of the night, and I always have a couple with me to enjoy the newest episode of Minecraft story mode. They keep me from getting lonely when I'm alone.
But at the same time, they're company that I don't have to talk to, that I'm not obligated to keep entertained. It's not that I don't love talking and getting excited with other people and having a good time; I LOVE being social! I thrive on it! But when I'm tired of that stuff and ready to be an introvert and recharge, I can thank my mice to give me some company but not demand that I be my extroverted self. That's really what my girls are to me more than anything.

Re: What do your mice do for you?
My mice give my grandparents and I a chance to bond more and talk more. Since my mice reside at my grandparents house, I Facetime a lot to watch them! It has given my grandparents and I a bigger chance to talk! I was always close to them, but its nice to talk to them more often, even if its just about the mice. I feel lucky to have pretty young grandparents, (My grandma is about 57-58 I believe?) and so I get to do more activities with them! I sometimes record my screen when Im watching them and I play it back when I'm bored and watch them futz around!

Re: What do your mice do for you?
I used to have mice as a child, so I was already in love with little critters. In my late 30's I started having a lot of health problems and several surgeries. I found myself awake and alone most nights. I thought it would be nice to have something else awake with me. I had never had a hamster before, so I got a little dwarf hamster to keep me company. She changed everything. Many of the old-timers here remember my Lucy. Well, I didn't have her long before I thought it would be best if I just got a lot more critters. So, I got a few mice. Then some more hams, then some more mice. And so on! And here I am now with no shortage of company in the middle of the night.
I love how sweet mice are, so gentle. And they are so fun to watch. They really enjoy life and appreciate everything. And they are so good to each other. It just about broke my heart to watch Bitsy care for Annie in her final days. I was just overwhelmed by her dedication. I watched Bits hold Annie's hand in hers, and clean in between each finger. She rarely left her side. She kept the nest spotless, Annie spent all her time in the hammock and when I cleaned at the end of the week there wasn't one poop in there. Bitsy kept it clean. I'm getting off topic.
So, yes, the keep me company and sometimes they are the only thing that gets me out of bed, so for that I am grateful.
For anyone who would like to "meet" my first hamster, Lucy, I'll post links since this is off topic https://youtu.be/LV0QRM0NF1I
