Heeey, it's Greg! Hi Greg!
Many people don't feed almonds because they contain small amounts of cyanide. The idea is that since mice are so little it wouldn't take much to affect them.

Re: Safe Foods
We got some dried prunes for free, and I was wondering if the mice could have a bit? I didn't see it on any of the lists, so..
Re: Safe Foods
I believe, provided the pits been removed, they can have a little occasionally.

Re: Safe Foods
Thanks so much for making a list like this! I've been googling trying to find a list of things they shouldn't have, but a lot of what I was finding was about intentionally poisoning wild mice, or about feeders or lab mice. Makes research pretty difficult!
I did have one question, I noticed grapes are on the safe list but raisins are on avoid, what is the reason for this?

Re: Safe Foods
Personally, I avoid both because it's not clear if they're safe for mice.
This list originally started out on the old forum (the Fun mouse) as me questioning the safety of food items, compiling my own personal list, and it eventually was turned into a sticky by one of the mods. Norman's Mom was active over there, and a very experienced mouse owner. I believe she had ok'd grapes but said to avoid raisins. Not sure what the thought was behind it, but in my hand written list I have both grapes and raisins down on the avoid list. If I could edit it here I'd change it, though I know many feel they're most likely safe.

Re: Safe Foods
I think its the skin on grapes that are the problem. I had a note somewhere that said that.

I know wholegrain toast is safe, but what about wholegrain bread in general? Does it have to be toasted, or...?

Re: Safe Foods
Looks like I will be spending my morning picking out the sunflower seeds from the food I recently bought. Luckily there is barely any corn but there are a lot of sunflower seeds...
