Jelly's belly, literally
I was wondering if anyone knows what "color" Jelly is... I don't know the first thing about this sort of thing. But I finally got a picture of Jelly's belly and how neat her markings are. Just looking at her, you would think she's a broken champagne but then her spots abruptly turn tan on her belly. I don't think she would be considered a tricolor. Anyway, I've only ever seen a full tan belly with a solid color on top. She's got interesting markings for sure.

Now, enjoy this picture of a poop on her head.

Aaw cuuutie pie! I would guess it's just a "poor" tan, but what do I know
Maybe we can call it a broken tan haha.
Some mice don't like to play by the rules when it comes to belly colour. My Honey is a cinnamon with a tan belly, but also has one random splodge of white on her belly.

This, I think. Check out the "Tan and Fox" section on the Varieties of Mice page, under "Black and Tan." It says tans can be any color and can be piebald (broken), there just has to be a distinct line between their top color and their bottom tan color. So a broken champange and tan?? I could be wrong though.
Edit: and then I see a bit further down it does list "broken tan" too.

What a fun belly!
I always look for tans when I visit pet stores but haven't found one in a couple years. It's such a pretty combination on Jellybean.

I'd opt for a broken champagne because of the ruby eyes. My Cordelia is a satin self champagne with ruby eyes.

Yes, a broken champange. The "tan" refers to the distinct belly coloring, in this case also broken. See picture #3. Unless I am completely misunderstanding the description of "Tan" and "Broken Tan" in the article on mouse varieties. Which is a definite possibility.

So, couple things.
1. NM says
2. She would call Jelly a broken champagne-tan. but really she's probably technically jus a broken champagne with a tan "fault". but she carries the tan gene obviously, but it isn't fully expressed. NM was proud that tricolor was never up for debate. she would make pretty babies if she was up in the market.

Cool, good to know
it always seems so harsh to use words like "poor" and "fault" when describing mice, I know it's show terminology but still
