Peppermint?
Hello everyone!
I'm new here and I have two mice. Before I had mice I would use peppermint essential oil on the vents and on the windows to keep ants and other bugs out. I know that mice also don't like the smell of peppermint but I don't like using ant spray in my room in general and I'm sure that's not good for mice either. Any advice?

Re: Peppermint?
Honestly I wouldn't use that with the mice around. I believe a while back someone asked about essential oils and we basically came to the conclusion that it's not good to use any "smelly things" (Essential oils, air fresheners, etc.) around mice. What smells good to you is many times magnified to a mouse's nose and it can be very strong to a little mousie. Not to mention that peppermint oil is used as a natural mouse repellent.

Thanks for the quick feedback!
I try to limit the smells in my room because of my mice but I also need to keep ants out because we have a few ant infestations every year. I don't want to use ant spray and peppermint oil is out. Do you have some advice on how to keep ants out without bothering my mice?

Re: Peppermint?
Sorry I'm not sure, my house has never had any ant problems. Hopefully someone else can help you with that

Re: Peppermint?
Terro ant baits work great (away from the mice of course). Also a thick smear of Vaseline around the outside edge of the mouse tank will keep ants out until you get them under control.
