Color Confusion! / Breeding

Post by Ohitslilly on Tue 21 Aug 2018, 12:44 pm

Hey guys!

I’m super confused, pretty new into breeding and hope you can help me out with this one!

Male is a black dutch sh
Female is a Colorpoint heterozyg beige

And my babies are… this. And I really can’t define the color! On the dad’s side theres only Lilac/Chocolate and one RY.
On the mom’s side theres some Blue Burmese/Blue Point Siamese/Colorpoint Beige/Silver & one PEW.

But to me they don’t look like any of these! Could it be Sepia? and the hairless ones are heterozyg instead of completely nude right? Sorry, still trying to learn the terms. Rolling Eyes

I tried to take some pictures of them in daylight, hope you can help my newbie brain out Very Happy

A lot of our members experienced with breeding and genetics haven’t been very active lately. I’ll try tagging a few that I can remember in hopes that one has the time to pop in and answer your questions. Smile

Looking at the pictures, they're all blacks - not Sepia. Plus genetically speaking, sepia isn't possible from this pairing. Considering Dad is a black dutch marked with no known c-dilutes in his history, it's entirely possible that he just doesn't carry any c-dilutes thus meaning he wouldn't throw any.

Coat wise, whatever causing the funky coat type - unless either parent has the same coat, it's a recessive gene and thus homozygous instead of heterozygous. Plus most of the coat types I know of ie. fuzzy, hairless etc are recessive anyways.

Thanks for answering @AppleCheeks.

Yeah, so I’m thinking a poor black.
Mom is sold as a nude - don’t know if it’s correct but that was what she was marked as.

That’s her at 4 weeks: https://ibb.co/evWPxe
And her now, took this picture yesterday. https://ibb.co/myuzVz
She still has a little coating of fur.

Could it be some kind of bad fuzzy?

Ahhhh scratch my original reply, kind of botched the information I gave regarding coat types - it's not my forte, we only have longhair and shorthair here in NZ so my knowledge on other coat types is iffy at times.
My guess? You were right about the funky coat pups being hetero nudes.
Hetero nudes can vary sooooo much from being completely hairless to looking very much like a fuzzy. The obvious difference between a nude (hetero and homo) and fuzzy? Nudes have very short whiskers or none at all while fuzzys have curly whiskers.
Looking at mum, she looks pretty well bred, possibly from show lines so I'd say her breeder knows their stuff (she's beautifully typed). I don't see any whiskers on her so yeah, I'd agree with "nude" and the fact that she produced normal haired pups as well as nudes tells me she's also hetero (homo nude wouldn't give you the normal coat pup).

All good! Yeah, she's a show and the breeder is amazing! I'm also getting an Abyssinian from her on sunday. She's unreal too Smile https://ibb.co/e8mF7e (Siamese fox splashed banded abyssinier satin longhair to be specific lol)

I was pretty sure she was nude even though she wasn't completely hairless, but a breeder on another forum told me "hetero/homo" were only terms used for reptiles and she "absolutely couldn't be a hairless" that's why I became super confused.
But cool, thanks for helping out! Now I know what to call them when they'll be old enough to be sold haha. Smile

All I see is poor black (could be lighter due to carrying recessives)
The last few are rex/fuzzy ( a dominate gene)
