Help please? Empty Help please?

Post by Chibimouse45 Wed 29 Aug 2018, 8:38 am

My little mouse Remy has been scratching himself non-stop, I know it's hurting him cause he squeaks when he does it, he's also balding himself and idk how to stop him until he's healed up. I give him treats to temporarily stop him but he won't stop otherwise. Advice? If so please tell me, thank you.

Hi there, it might be a case of food allergies or possibly mites. Please check out this post to see what you can do. https://www.petmousefanciers.com/t17-itching-hair-loss-and-parasites Best of luck to you Smile

Do mice itch at injuries? Cause before there was scratching there was a little hard scab on his neck, ( where he's itching) I don't think it's allergies though cause I only buy hay pellets and those pretzel shaped treats. I give him fruit every once in a while though. The scab came right after I got done babysitting my sister's mouse which is also male. Could that be the problem?

It could be mites. The scab you noticed before scratching was likely caused from scratching, just maybe less obvious scratching. The article linked above also goes over parasites and a thing some mice develop usually referred to as “Chronic Scratching.”

So I would treat for parasites and keep him distracted and busy as much as possible.

But I will add, just like with humans, allergies can developed to anything at any time. So keep that in mind. If things get really bad and nothing helps, I recommend making an appointment with a veterinarian.
