I showed a live meal worm to my mouse and she just ignored it. Are you supposed to give them the live or dried meal worms?

Either is fine. It may just take offering it another time or two before she'll try them. Mice can be silly like that. Smile

I've not tried either, so while what I can say is pretty limited, either is fine. However, I would probably prefer dried myself. I've heard stories of mice being scared of the wiggly little live ones. Plus, wouldn't dried ones last longer at the least?

Well, I can get live ones for free, because my dad owns insect-eating reptiles (Don't worry, no snakes!), and he has like 100's of live ones in a bin all the time, that are available to me. He doesn't use the dried ones. So, if I got the dried kind, I'd have to pay, while I can get live ones any time I want for no cost.

Stick with the live ones then! Free is always good, after all. She'll warm up to them in time, so I wouldn't worry to much if she's hesitant with them.

I give mine dried. I have heard that the wriggling can frighten some mice, so they won't eat them lol. Maybe try chopping the head off and killing it first?

I think you just have to trigger the hunting instinct in your mice. When I used to keep frogs, on occassion some of the feeder crickets would escape in the bathroom, but all I had to do was let Little Cow run around, and she'd take care of them all for me. Some mice might not be interested, but try putting a few live worms in their play bin or something.

Sounds disturbing, lol. I'll try a couple more times and if they still ignore it I'll go with trying your method, poor bug lol. I just need to get some proteins in their diet, as they are on a steady diet of only seeds, lab blocks, and an occasional cheerio or piece of dried fruit.

Scrambled or hard boiled eggs are other good ways to give your mice protein. It's also good practice to provide fresh vegetables at least twice a week for two hours at a time so they can get nutrients that are absent from their base foods.

Yeah, my dad hard boils eggs for his lizard, which sounds odd, but his lizard eats them! I was thinking of getting a piece from him next time he boils one Smile

Edit: Should they be fed a piece of the white or of the yolk, or does it even matter?

He has four different kinds of lizards, the one he feeds eggs and meal worms to is a "blue tongue skink", I'll list the other lizards he has;
Bearded Dragon (Eats meal worms)
Uromastyx (Eats seeds and greens)
Leapord Gecko (Eats meal worms)
He used to have two bearded dragons, male and female, but the female passed away of old age. He still has the male though. Now you can see why he has so many meal worms Razz
