Beige Poop?

Post by EverythingAnimal on Sun Jun 26, 2016 7:31 pm

So I had Suzie out for a bit today to look at the scab on her ear- she is going back to the vet tomorrow. Well sure enough, when she pooped, it was beige. I think Scaredy said this was very bad earlier, but didn't elaborate on why. Yesterday it was a normal greenish brown but all of a sudden this? Good thing we already have a vet appointment, I will be sure to ask about it. So, what exactly does it mean? Could it be internal parasites? A problem with food? I sure hope this doesn't continue! Suzie was a Petco doe and has had a continuous strain of issues, causing her to remain alone in quarantine far too long. She seems to be acting normal, running, grooming chewing, climbing. You can tell she just wants to be healthy.

If it's an isolated incident, there is not cause for concern. However, if it is persistent, it indicates that there is an imbalance in the liver which could be caused by any number of things. But the way it works is that the liver produces bile and that makes poop the brown color it's supposed to be. So beige poop means the liver isn't doing what it's supposed to. Green poop is okay on occasion, it just might mean they're was a lot of green in the diet. But if it's green all the time, its indicates that food is paying through the body to quickly. And that's bad because they probably aren't absorbing enough nutrients from the food.

So mention it to the vet, but don't be too concerned if it's an isolated incident.

Have your mice had anything new/unusual to eat recently? My mice had beige poops once when they'd had banana for the first time.

It does appear to me that it is a one time thing, it is back to a normal color now. I can't think of anything new she could've eaten, though, I did give her a mealworm earlier, but she has had them many times before and this has not happened. She's been chewing up tp tubes and tissue paper, could this have caused it if she ingested a lot?

I doubt that the stuff she was chewing would cause that.
