Re: Weird breathing?
Have you tried marking the water bottle to see if it goes down any? That's what I do when I have my concerns. I'm thinking it's just stress - I'd agree that you shouldn't bother her besides the necessary water freshening and bowl refills. Mice can get stressed out pretty easy, especially pet-shop mice - some have been there their whole lives, after all. Give her a week or two. She doesn't look in pain, so I'd guess that there's nothing seriously wrong.

Re: Weird breathing?
Could be - My Daisy does that, and when I come in the room while she's drinking water she'll stare at me and pretend she wasn't doing anything, lol.MouseLover wrote:Good idea with the watermelon and carrot. Maybe she's eating and drinking at night, when the lights are out?

Haven't tried that, but I just caught her taking a sip, which makes me happy! I'm pretty positive now she's just stressed - so I think it'd be best to leave her to do her own thing.ThePetekeyPrep wrote:Have you tried marking the water bottle to see if it goes down any? I think she's doing better - she went and looked to see what I put in her food bowl, and took a sip of water, she's probably just stressed and tired, you never know what kind of stress was put on her before she arrived at the pet store.Rodents rock! wrote:Hi, how is she doing? Update on her!: She is doing a lot better now, she's been eating a lot and drinking. I decided to start taming either today or tomorrow, depends on when I have time. I put my hand in the cage right now and she's already putting her two front paws on my hand, she's not too shy of a mouse!

Great! Has her breathing become more relaxed? Sounds like a very friendly girl. And she's so small as well!
I'm still in awe of her colors. Very, very beautiful.

Re: Weird breathing?
Yes, it seems to be a lot better, I only notice it when I bother her too much, perhaps there was a traumatic experience for her at the pet shop that involved humans and now she's just a little nervous around humans, if that's the case, I'm sure I can fix that. She'll come around eventually after some taming sessions if that's it. She is friendly, I think she just needs to know I'm not going to hurt her. If I gain her trust I think everything will be alright. If she's just stressed out about her new environment, I'm sure some time for her to adjust can fix it. She does seem fairly small compared to my other two mice, maybe she's a little younger.ThePetekeyPrep wrote:Great! Has her breathing become more relaxed as well? Sounds like a very friendly girl. She does look younger - did you check the sizing chart for mice we have? She may just be very, very young, in which case you have even better luck with taming.

Re: Weird breathing?
I did look at the sizing chart but it's just kind of hard to tell, here is a low quality picture taken on my tablet (sorry), of her compared to one of those Kaytee puzzle playground things. If you know the size of those maybe you can tell.

She doesn't look under four weeks to me. How much does she weigh? Also, if you take a photo of her next to a quarter, someone on here may be able to guess her age for you. But unfortunately, the person who had a knack for that hasn't been on in a long time.

Re: Weird breathing?
I may be able to help if you compare her with a quarter - I haven't really had one of those puzzle things, so I don't know how big they are.

Re: Weird breathing?
Glad she's doing better. Sounds like she isn't too afraid of you. She could be finding it stressful being a lone mouse for the first time in her life, maybe that's it?
