Re: Weird breathing?
Look at her food dish, it's in the picture of Violet that is in my signature. The big things are the food blocks, the rest is all seeds. There are also non-striped sunflower seeds but they are a little more scarce in the seed mix.
Re: Weird breathing?
If you look on the back of the bag for the food, there'll be a nutritional analysis. Crude protein is the only one that's important.
Crude protein for mice has to be between 12-14%, otherwise it can cause allergic reactions. Too high of CP has been known to cause hot spots. If the crude protein amount in the food you're giving is too high, it could be the cause of this. What brand is it? If you look it up on amazon, there should be a picture of the nutritional analysis that you can use. I don't think it's likely that CP is the cause of this, but let's rule it out.

I think I found it online, it says %12.0, if it's the right one, it sure looks like it.
Re: Weird breathing?
Okay, so we can rule out crude protein. That's one thing down. Let us know how she reacts to the carefresh and the wood being gone. You should start seeing some results within a few days.

Re: Weird breathing?
Good luck AnonymouseMouseOwner. Really hope this helps little Violet.
If you get round to it, it might be a good idea to phone/email vets in the mean time, asking for price quotes. Could be handy to know for any future health problems

Good luck with little Violet. I really do hope you're just dealing with allergies. How are the other girls? Has little Clover been introduced, or is she still in QT?

Re: Weird breathing?
Clover is still in quarantine, it hasn't been that long yet. Daisy and Holly seem really healthy, haven't noticed anything wrong with them. Daisy is always out playing on the wheel or running around the cage, and she always wants Holly to come out and play but Holly is lazy
. Clover is really healthy too, she's a speedy little thing! When I turn the light on I just see her rocket into her hide lol. Ever since I changed Violet to newspaper bedding, she's just been eating a lot, like every time I go in there she's at the food dish, is that good?

It could be! Eating healthily is a good sign, and it could mean she want eating as much as she should before because she was uncomfortable, and now she's getting her fair share of food.
All your girls are super pretty. I'm surprised you managed to find them at pet shops!!

Re: Weird breathing?
I hope it helps too! I researched vets online, and I found three different vets that I could go to if I ever need to. However, one left no contact information so I can't email them, I emailed another one (waiting for an answer), and one was SUPER expensive. The SUPER expensive one had a review and it said that this person took their two pet mice in (they were both sick), and they were charged $100 PER mouse! Yikes!MouseLover wrote:Good luck AnonymouseMouseOwner. Really hope this helps little Violet.

Re: Weird breathing?
That's crazy. My vet charges me "half visits" for the mice ($25), plus costs of any meds.

Re: Weird breathing?
$100 is absurd. My vet charges $65 for an office visit. I rarely bring more than one mouse, but I once did, and she only charged me for one visit.
