Fighting due to boredom?? Empty Fighting due to boredom??

Post by Pet.crazy101 on Wed 13 Mar 2019, 1:20 am

I was "successful" in bonding 8/9 girls (the other girl will hopf ully be getting a friend soon) and they are currently in a minimal set up with 1 house and not a whole lot of floor toys and no hanging toys, they don't seem to fight over the food bowl (it's big enough for them all to fit around it),the wheel or the water bottle,no blood has been drawn and they all sleep together but they seem to be always chasing eachother around or pining each other in corners and there is always alot along a squeaking  (which makes it kind of hard to sleep at night).

I know females argue with each other but this seems exercise, they have been together since February 28th and I had plans to set up my 55 with a ton of stuff and move them in but i've been sick lately so I haven't been able to finish it.

The bigger the group, the more complicated the group dynamics are. If you think of a group of 4 mice for example, there will be 6 individual one-on-one mouse relationships within that group. With a group of 8 mice, the number of individual relationships is 27. So I think it makes sense that the larger the group, the longer it's going to take the mice to sort out their hierarchy. 2 weeks probably isn't that long to have figured out all those relationships and where everybody stands. As long as things aren't getting worse, and hopefully things are getting better (even if very very slowly), it's probably not something to worry about.

If you think they're getting frustrated and fighting because they're bored, you could start introducing some more toys and see if it makes a difference one way or another. I'd personally advise wheels being the last things you introduce, just because I think they're probably the thing that causes most squabbles.

Current Mice: None.
Rainbow Bridge: Daisy, Peach, Ivy, Penelope, Hazel, Ruby, Clover, Peanut, Minnie, Ginger,  Honey, Violet, Flora, Fauna and Merryweather.
