I went to Petco today because my little brother wanted to go to Target and Petco was two stores down, so my mom dropped me off there. I was watching the female mice when I saw a mouse that was definitely not female. I went to go get an employee, so they scooped him out and dumped him into the male mouse cage. The territory of very territorial animals. They thanked me for letting them know and then told me that the supplier didn’t separate them out before they were shipped and they had to do it themselves. Like, what? Why would you not separate them, they can breed at such a young age. I was about to leave, passed by the mice again, and saw another male in the female’s cage. Most of the female mice are barely more than babies themselves. Half the size of my adult females, a third of the size of my big boy Benson. Most of them are probably pregnant and are going to have to raise young just because some people were to lazy to separate them. How is that fair to the sweet babies? This Petco is about to end up with a hundred-something mice in a few weeks.
Mice are the best!

Sadly this is all too common in any pet store.

Once I went in to get a mouse and ended up fishing at least four males out of the female tank. They just let me get them out, actually. (the Petco is right down the road from us and we're in there all the time... I know more about mice than anyone in there and they knew me)
