Re: My new Betta Fish!!
I agree that that tank is a bit small, and is there a heater and filter? Bigger tanks are a lot easier to clean and take care of, and filters are always necessary to build up beneficial bacteria, so even if the tank is big enough and the room is kept warm, I would encourage you to at least get a filter.
Anyway, Artistwolf, I was actually referring to the betta being aggressive towards the frogs, the ADFs have never gone after a fish, but I could see how they could snap up a small fry or shrimp. That is, with the slim chance they could see it!
Here is a pic of my newest betta (bought a few weeks ago as a baby from Petco) Cleo.

Re: My new Betta Fish!!
So pretty.
I've had a few Bettas over the years. Let's see if I can dig up pictures ...
This was Buddy. He was my third Betta.

Pie, who was kept temporarily in a 3 gallon cylindrical tank. He was from a wedding "centerpiece."

Unfortunately, he did not live long. Many of those poor fish didn't.
Peach, who was from the same wedding.

He was one of two from the wedding that survived a few years.
Plum.

He was oringinally called Blueberry before he darkened up and we decided Plum suited him better.
When we first brought him home:

Then he did this before ultimately darkening up to the pic above:

And Grape. Who had the ugliest face I've ever seen on a Betta but the prettiest colors.

Sorry to spam your thread with my pics.
Edit: I forgot Mango!

Re: My new Betta Fish!!
I'm with EverythingAnimal. Bettas are tropical fish that need heat and filtration just like any other! Those tiny bowls some people keep them in are like housing individual mice in coffee cups that never get cleaned. Also, EverythingAnimal, that betta is STUNNING. You found her in a pet store? Wow!
I've had about ten bettas over the years. There was Redcrown my red crowntail, Stella my pink veiltail, Margaret a purple crowntail, Martin (my favorite) who had a black body and orange veiltail fins, Dragon my friend's betta who lived with me after she moved who was also a red crowntail, Waffle a platinum blue halfmoon plakat, Sayir a pink doubletail with red fins, and Margot a purple crowntail. I'll have to post pictures sometime! I miss my bettas, but I just can't get myself into aquariums anymore.

Re: My new Betta Fish!!
Yes, I agree. Bettas should not be kept in bowls at all. There is little air circulation, and bowls get dirty quickly. I believe the minimum is 2.5 gallons for a betta, and a filter and heater are a must. They are so much happier in a big tank.
All of your bettas are/were stunning, CallaLily! Let me see if I can find any pictures of mine....

I agree about aquarium sizes for these guys. That 3 gallon was only temporary. I've done 5 gallon too but the majority of them were housed in 10 or 29 gallon aquariums. All cycled, filtered, and heated. I miss the fish, I don't miss the work.

Re: My new Betta Fish!!
I keep my betta in a 5 gallon with a filter and they love it. I wonder if I can get a picture of Sam - I'll have to try!

Re: My new Betta Fish!!
I believe that bettas should be kept in a minimum of 5 gallons if possible, but 2.5 gallons are okay if there's no other choice. Anything under that is not, though, since there's no room for a heater or filter. I used to have bettas all lining my desk in 2.5 gallon tanks with little heaters and those cute Azoo palm filters. My maximum was five at once!

EverythingAnimal—Oh. Well, I'm stupid
Thanks for clarifying!
Wow! Those are some beautiful Bettas! Those fish seem to sometimes have some weird heads, haha. Other than that though, they're really pretty. That's so interesting how Plum darkened like that!
I agree with the tank sizes... Just seeing how unbelievably happy my little guy is is enough to make me never advise having a small tank for a Betta!!

Re: My new Betta Fish!!
So I don't have pictures of my first three bettas, unfortunately, but I have them of all the others! So I thought I'd share.

This pretty little lady is Margaret. She was a sweet little thing. Her colors look awesome in this picture, but most of the time she was a more dingy purple.

This here's Dragon. He was my friend's betta, but when she moved, she gave him to me. He was a spunky little thing!

Here's Martin, my absolute favorite betta. He had an incredible personality. I once put some lettuce in his tank for the apple snail who lived with him, but he stole it! It turned into a huge tug of war battle, and I dragged him all over the tank.
He was so vibrant and fun. I miss him!

This is Waffle, my gorgeous halfmoon plakat. I saw him at the store and immediately returned for him a couple days later. He was just so pretty! He spent most of his life on my desk, but I ended up moving him to my 20gal long tank in the kitchen and then my 38gal tank once the other closed up. This picture doesn't do him justice. He was iridescent.

This is Sayir, who I only had for a short while. He lived in my grandma's room.

And lastly, Margot. I got her from a breeder, so she was an absolutely stunning specimen. Beautiful purple color, awesome white stripe on her tail, and great balance and form. Pictures don't really do her justice. Maybe I'll post a video someday.
So, yeah, that's all of them! This here's a picture of the setup I had. This was around the time my mom found out I was pet crazy.
I know, their tanks were a little too small, only 1gal, but I didn't know any better at the time. All these guys did get better tanks down the road. I used all my allowance to get them bigger ones with proper heat and filtration. ^.^

Wow! You've had some beauties over the years! Waffle is super pretty... I love iridescent things.
Names: I'm thinking either Cardinal, Flame, Vermillion, or maybe Tourmaline or Pyrite. I'm not sure if any of these actually fit him or not though.

Re: My new Betta Fish!!
LOL CINNA seriously where are you getting these names from!? XD
They sound kinda too evil
Pyro does sound cool, but it also sounds like we're shortening pyometra or whatever that one hamster illness is called XP
I'm thinking maybe King Vermillion. Because he's very King-like. And Vermillion is a bright red color.
