Skin/ear problem
Hi all, i just joined the site and im looking for some advice. One of my two female mice developed a sore inner ear which she scratched. I put antiseptic on it but it dident heal and now the soreness is on her throat. Has anyone any advice on remedies to help as my vet wants £40 just to look at her!!! Thank you xx

Re: Skin/ear problem
No offense to your finances, but £40 is not that large of a vet bill. Sometimes it’ll total up to be in the hundreds, and that’s just what to expect when caring for any animal. There are no certified home remedies for rodents, so seeing your vet is going to be in your mouse’s best interest.
For the future, setting aside a few hundred pounds in case something happens and you need to see a vet is strongly suggested

Re: Skin/ear problem
That is not for treatment!!! I used to breed guinea pigs and there were various home remedies as written in a book by a well known breeder, so the post was not intended for the run of the mill answer by yourself, but perhaps a helpful reply would have been appreciated!!!

Re: Skin/ear problem
I apologize that I am literally one of the only regular repliers on this site and I cannot help you. Anyone else on here would have said the exact same as I have. I am a firm believer that vet care is much much better than any home remedy, but you believe what you want. All I’m saying is veterinary treatment is a crucial part of pet care and refusing to provide it is a breach of federal law:
http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2006/45/section/4
In this subsection, in a nutshell, it states that if you are causing unnecessary suffering to an animal, the government hasn’t the right to punish you. Refusing to provide vet care certainly falls under this.
And, yes, I do realize the £40 is just the check in cost. Most bills reach into the £100 range for medication depending on what medication is needed and for how long.

Re: Skin/ear problem
No animal in my care has, or ever will do, suffer. I simply asked a question. For your information she will visit the vet tomorrow.
May i add that a lot of breeders are able to remedy some health issues but you obviously go to the vet each time.
I am offended by your replies and am leaving this site which seems to have you as the only keyboard warrior

Thank you for seeking out vet care. I would not call myself a “keyboard warrior” but rather quite passionate about the wellbeing of animals, thank you
