My mouse is sneezing blood? Empty My mouse is sneezing blood?

Post by girl.bear Tue 31 Dec 2019, 8:18 pm

I was on vacation the past week and just came home (I had someone pet sit). I took my mouse out to play with him, and he sneezed a few times, and small red liquid particles which appeared to be blood came out. Otherwise, he was acting normal. It's not necessarily new for him to sneeze, but I've never seen the red stuff come out.

I have noticed in the past dried red stuff on his wall in the cage when I wiped it down to clean it. It was red, not brown like dried blood would be. I'm not sure if this is from the same thing or not, but maybe. I heard there is a gland behind the eyes in rats that produces red liquid when their stressed. Do mice have something similar? I have a new cat, so that might have something to do with it. But also, if he's bleeding, that would be a more serious concern. What do you guys think? And if it is blood, is it possible it's allergies (he sneezes ever since I got him) or could it be a respiratory infection?

I don’t believe mice have that same gland—I at least haven’t seen it on my girls.

In either case, I would definitely see a vet, both for the sneezing and the red stuff.
