Transparent shelving in bin cage? Empty Transparent shelving in bin cage?

Post by Nieve5552 on Thu 02 Jan 2020, 3:01 am

Hi all,

I don't have any mice yet but I'm planning out their living area to prep for them. I have a modified bin cage approx 25 US gallon size, and will have 3-4 females.

Since I'd like to provide them some extra surfaces I am going to put in a shelf or two, but would like them to be transparent plexiglass. Has anyone had experience using transparent shelves? I am just wondering if there's any possibility that mice would be uncomfortable walking on completely transparent surface. I'd like to make shelves they want to use!

Hello!

I don’t have any clear shelves but I do have some clear hides; my girls have no issues walking all over it. Smile If you find your girls to be a bit unsure you could always place some paper on top of the glass, though.

Great to know, thanks for your reply! Smile

I've found out I could potentially colour stain any plexiglass if needed, in case they inadvertently jump into it etc. But maybe I'm underestimating nice intelligence, I've only had rats before!
