Getting Mice From Separate Breeders?
I'm looking to get a group of female mice (about 4!) or possibly one male mouse if I absolutely fall in love with them in March.
The timing of everything is lining up nicely for me to go to the Fur and Feathers Convention on March 7th, in Anderson Indiana!
My question for the forum is this: because I'm interested in a variety of colors, I'd like to get a few different babies from separate breeders. Will the babies fight? Will they be young enough to get along alright?
I know quarantining is part of the vendor process, my second question is this: do I still need to quarantine the new mice before I put them in their main tank together?
Is it safer/less stressful for the group to get them all from the same breeder?

Re: Getting Mice From Separate Breeders?
Hello!
If you get your mice from separate breeders that’s fine, but you will have to go through the bonding process. This is detailed in this article:

Most of it is pretty good but I wouldn’t recommend the vanilla technique as vanilla is really strong smelling and can be irritating to your mice.
As for quarantine, honestly, if you get your mice from an experienced, ethical breeder, typically those mice won’t be sick because they’re from a healthy source. The issue with QT occurs when you don’t know your mouse’s background and disease may be prevalent.
Overall, it’s a lot easier if you get all your mice from one breeder as you don’t have to go through the bonding process, but either way can work out fine in the end.

Re: Getting Mice From Separate Breeders?
Thank you for the feedback! I've bookmarked the link to read and reread later.
Seems like it's definitely doable, just that it'll require a little extra work.
