bigger tank

Post by Rodents rock! on Tue Jul 05, 2016 9:13 am

I can't wait till this Friday so I can get Mickey a 20 gallon long tank! I already have some more popsicle climbing stuff made just waiting to put in a new tank. I want to make it so fun and interesting for him! When I get it all set up, I will share some photos   Ear wiggle

I'll bet he'd love a bigger tank! A 20gal long really is a nice size. I would've liked to keep my three girls in their bigger tank, but it would've been too hard to manage with Henry's tank too, and they don't really use the space anyways.

What a lucky boy! My girls are stuck with a 10 gallon tank, as it's the largest thing I can fit on my TV stand where I keep their cage.

I got Mickey's new tank today and he is loving it! He's been in it for about an hour now and he hasn't stopped exploring except to stop and at a couple of times. He has his regular food dish with his block food and now he has a new little dish with the parakeet food you guys recommended and he is enjoying that. In addition to the little house he already had, I got him a ceramic good luck cat with an opening so he can use that as a house too. I think he has finally settled in to take a nap now, he's been a busy boy! The popsicle structures I made are working out nice. It's two platforms hook together with a bridge. The platform on the left is open on the bottom and the ceramic cat is under there. The platform on the right is a double decker. There is a ramp leading to the bottom level, then the top level has an opening in the middle so Mickey can climb through to get to the top level. I didn't clean his wheel or his little house so that his scent would still be on some things so to make the transition less stressful for him and hopefully he won't feel as much need to mark too much. I will for sure post some photos tomorrow when there is natural light coming in my apartment. If I were to take photos now, they would just be too dark.

Wow that sounds great Very Happy definitely wanna see the ceramic cat thing, and your platform/bridge thingie Very Happy

Good idea with not cleaning his house and wheel, it will help him feel at home Smile He may scent mark everything a bit, just to claim it as his own (lol) but in my experience with cage changes, mice are so curious, and they love new things so much, that as long as their house/nest is the same they don't seem to get too stressed!

Thanks! Mickey chose to make a nest under the double decker platform instead of using his old house or his new cat. LOL Here are a few photos.

I got the lucky cat last night at World Market. They also had a flamingo and a cat face. They were all so cute but I love lucky cats so I picked that one! Thanks! I still want to get more things to hang so Mickey has even more places to climb Smile .

My mice chose it as a new favorite nesting spot too - ours are a little similar, actually! I love that cat-hide. He looks like he's having lots of fun in there! How is he settling in?
