Mice in the same room as a snake? Empty Mice in the same room as a snake?

Post by Oreoandfriends on Thu 13 Feb 2020, 5:50 pm

Hello!
I’ve been thinking about getting a Kenyan sand boa for a while now, but the only practical place to buy the tank would be in my room with my mice. The snake cage would have strong screen clips and my mice are in secure cages so no need to worry there, I’m just concerned that the smell of one animal would stress the other out. I currently have 4 mice (2 of which are male) so the smell can get unpleasant between wheel and cage cleans, but they usually don’t smell much unless I open the cages (as far as I can tell).
Any input is helpful! Thank you!

The mice would definitely be able to smell the boa, they have a very good sense of smell. Some mice don't have that predator/prey instinct, but if they do it may cause them stress. I'm not sure about on the snake end? I'd assume if the snake has a good sense of smell it will probably smell the mice and try to eat them or want to eat them. This may stress the snake out if it smells "food" and can't get to it.
