Safe items for chewing Empty Safe items for chewing

Post by Amachi Sun 01 Mar 2020, 9:22 am

Hi Everyone!
My mice love to chew on big leaf maple twigs that are partially decomposed. But, recently I noticed that Fluffy is having an allergic reaction to the maple twigs. After a half or so of the twigs in her cage she is sneezing and rubbing her nose.

I would appreciate suggestions for safe chew things for my mice.

Cheers,
Amachi

Hello!

Maple, especially unsanitized, partially decomposed maple, is unsafe for mice. I would strongly suggest using items sold for rodents, such as apple sticks, loofah chews, hay/seagrass chews, and the alike.

Ty for sharing Maple being not ok for Mice. I am getting a bulk load of sawdust and I will check to be certain it doesn't contain Maple. :O

Sawdust is also unsafe for mice as mice have very sensitive respiratory systems. I would also not use a bedding in which you don’t know what wood is being used.

I personally use paper bedding. It’s soft, only has a very small amount of dust, and can be inexpensive too if you know how to work a coupon Very Happy
