How often & how long does it take to clean a mouse enclosure?
I am trying to convince my mom to let me get a group of 3 female mice, but after doing extensive research I could not find a solid answer of how often I should clean the enclosure. My mom is mostly on board with the idea, except she is worried that I will not be able to maintain a clean enclosure once the world goes back to normal... I already have 2 parakeets and I clean their cage once a week and I know I will be able to properly care for the mice, but I need help convincing her that I can do it.
On average how often and how long does it take you to clean your mouse enclosure? Thanks!

Hello!
I generally clean my cage once every 7-10 days, but depending on how large your cage is you may be able to go for longer. When you clean, only replace about 1/3 of the bedding--there should be some near the bottom that goes untouched if you put a recommended 6".
As for how long, it generally takes about an hour or two. At first it took me longer since I wasn't used to creating an enriching set up but after a while you get into the swing of what your mice like. For this reason I really wouldn't recommend mice to anyone who has a busy work/school schedule--they suck up a lot of time from your week. Of course, it's absolutely worth it, but it's definitely a point to consider.

I usually spot clean 3 times a week (which takes about ten minutes). All you do is take out patches of urine/poo that stand out. Usually, after awhile you'll notice that your mice pick a spot to pee in, so all you have to do is clean that out and stray poops. Once a week I do a deep clean. I replace 2/3 of the bedding and wipe down the container(this takes me about 45 minutes). I replace their toys every 2-3 weeks. Good luck getting your mice!! Theyre amazing.
