What Should I Do with this Mouse? Empty What Should I Do with this Mouse?

Post by LilaD on Thu 15 Oct 2020, 1:31 pm

Hi, sorry for my english. I'd like you help me urgently with this. I captured this little wild mouse in my house, if is possible, but my family does't like this kind of animals. The most accessible is to release it in some field (but I have read that it can only survive if it is an adult mouse). Another option is that I have found a pet store (but they probably won't host it).

For these reasons, I would like to know: how old do you think the mouse is? What do you suggest I do?

I thank you in advance for your attention.

He does look large enough to be fully grown. I think letting him go in the field would be the best bet. I also don't think the pet store would be willing to take him in and I doubt he would be very happy living as someone's pet.

I really think he'll be happy in that field.

I agree with @BredoniUrie.

This mouse, even if not fully adult, looks old enough to be on its own. Take it to a field where there are tall grasses and signs of mice (you should see tunnels made in the grasses) and let it go to be with its own kind. Do not take it to a pet store. They will not want a wild mouse and the mouse or will sell it as snake food, plus it will be unhappy in captivity. I'm speaking from experience with my own wild mouse who I let go.

It's nice that you saved this little creature! Very Happy

Giving animals alway to a pet store isn't a guarantee of wellness even if they're domesticated, as pet stores don't typically care who they are selling them off to.
For a wild little mousie, leaving it in a field 2 miles from your home at least is the best (less than 2 miles and they'll typically find their way back into your home). It'll never be happy in captivity and I doubt it'll make friends with humans at this age.

Thank you very much for your advices, it were very useful. I released it into a field with tall grasses far away from my house.

I hope he does well.
