Is Oxbow rat food okay for mice?
Is Oxbow rat food okay for mice?
So, I know that Oxbow Adult Rat Food is a great food for rats, but I was wondering if it could also be used as the staple food for adult mice. There is also an Oxbow food advertised as being for "Mice and Young Rats", but I have read that it's not actually good for young rats.

That's what I feed my boy! He's putting on weight healthily for his age and his skin looks good, so I'm pretty happy with it. One thing I will say (and this may go for rats too) is that the fiber is a little low. It averages at 3.5% so I supplement high fiber treats and seed regularly. That's easy to do, though. He likes to eat.
Some mice appear hypersensitive to protein and do better at 12-14% so that's something to look out for, especially if you're buying from a pet store. It isn't something that all mice will experience, but it doesn't seem super uncommon either. Since this is something you already buy for your rats I would try it and see how it goes, but that's just me.

Although I personally prefer Science Selective Rat as it has less protein, Oxbow is a good choice for a lab block.
Most people do suggest including a seed mix as well to allow for a more varied diet, however.

Well, I don't have mice yet, but when I do, I will.@River wrote:Since this is something you already buy for your rats I would try it and see how it goes, but that's just me.
