Biting to communicate Empty Biting to communicate

When Caliban decides he's been out long enough and would like to go home, he comes over and nibbles my palm. It isn't aggressive or painful, just a gentle and deliberate nibble -- not grooming, though he does that too. I understand this is a natural way to communicate for him, but I would rather he figure out another way to let me know he's done. Laughing

Do you guys have any ideas on how I could 'train' him to communicate another way? Maybe a certain trick associated with going back in the cage...? I do feel he is smart enough to pick something up, I'm just not sure what!

I have a little hamster igloo, which my mice now know means "You're coming out" and also "I want to go home." I transport them to their playground in it and when they're done running and climbing around, they get back in the igloo and I take them home. This works very well!

The thing is, Caliban has trained YOU. "I just nibble and she takes me home." I wonder if they think WE'RE hard to train:lol:

My Yoshi-boo/Yoshi-brat did this. He was the best mouse, but suddenly decided to bite to go home or if my hand was in his way. Laughing He eventually quit without me training another behavior. I love SarahAdams’ idea!
