Which do you buy/prefer?
Mouse food POLL Addition
Please vote. I'm trying to get a better idea of what everyone feeds their mouse or feels is the best food, so I can find my Figgus the best he can get. You can comment on your ideas/foods not listed/home recipes too. Thanks!

There are two options for browns tropical carnival rat and mouse, maybe you meant to make one the hamster version?

Thanks @EverythingAnimal . Unfortunately I don't know how to edit my poll and it will soon be over anyway.

I might get an earful, but....
I've only had my 2 girls for 3 months. I started out buying bagged "mouse food." Most of it went to waste. So I read the label, jotted down the names of some of the key ingredients and went to a local healthfood store. There I found many of those ingredients offered for sale in bulk bins. I purchased small amounts of 4 or 5 (millet, barley, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds in the shell) and started feeding them to the girls. They love it! I was concerned about the amount of protein they were getting so I bought dried mealworms and offer those a couple times a day as treats. I've since also purchased whole grain pasta, wild rice, and wheatberries. Those have gone over well, too. They're happy as clams, seem more active, and their coats are amazing!
I also offer a variety of chews to maintain their teeth.
Much cheaper than buying bagged food that mostly goes to waste. Bon appetit!

Re: Mouse food POLL Addition
I guess it is the vitamins and minerals that mice require, that are in fortified mouse/rat/bird food, that are missing, in the right amounts, in home prepared food that makes people wary of feeding only homemade mixes without even just a pellet form added. I feed my mouse a pellet plus two fortified bagged foods plus a nice mixture I make myself plus fruits and cooked or raw vegetables. I think the key is a broad range of foods. There is a lot on this subject in the pinned nutrition thread here on this forum.

I know that I am late for the poll. I just thought I would mention that I use Mazuri rat and mouse diet, and I know a few breeders that also use it. I would like to hear your thoughts on it though!

Personally, I think Mazuri uses way too much soybean product, the hulls are not great for our beans, and the second ingredient is corn, so not great.
